No, they shouldn't because on cats, they can be dangerous. Cats get into all sorts of situations where they can hang a collar on something and choke or break their neck. If you are worried about them getting out, get them microchipped. No chance of them losing a chip or getting killed by wearing a collar.

The whole point is that he may get out accidentally, and if he has no collar (no name tag) it will be even harder to find him than if he did have a collar. I had a strictly indoor cat, who a house guest accidentally let out when getting back to my house in the middle of the night, and luckly I ALWAYS kept a collar on him, and someone found him, called the number on the name tag and I got him back. I would suggest a breakaway collar to be safe to keep the cat from getting caught up on something.

Cats should not wear collars as they are dangerous for them. The safest collar is one with elastic so if they get it caught on something, it (hopefully) will pull off their heads. Cats like to squeeze through small spaces, and crowded areas, which is why the collars are dangerous. Their chances of getting hung up on something or stuck are high. My own animals are all microchipped in case they get out. All the vets I know and the shelters have scanners for reading them.

My cats don't wear collars and they don't go out either. But like my vet said...what if they do get out, as least a collar will have the rabies tag on it and they can track down the owner through the tag. Mine refuse to wear them, they will take it off. Good Luck KG

I don't have collars on my cats. They never really go outdoors either. The only time, is if we are out there with them and even then they stay by the door, they just don't like to go outside to wander. I guess it depeands on the personality of your cat.

If they are strictly indoor cats I would not put a collar on. However, if they do run outside once in a while a collar with their name, phone number, address, and health info would be great.

My cats are both indoor cats but they have collars because they can sometimes get out if someone leaves a door open or underneath the screen door because there's no frame there. Him wearing a collar can't hurt, and certainly could help a lot if your cat does get out.

My personal preference is to not put a collar on any cat. With their propensity to climb and to squeeze into tight corners, it is too easy for a collar to get caught up on something and the cat could strangle.

They should wear one with contact info on them. Make sure you get a "breakaway" collar that if a cat gets snagged on something it will break and they wont choke. (Hagen makes a good one)
Cats like to sneak past you and try and get out. Its better to have it on and think it un-necessary that wish you did have it on when you lose a cat.
(btw the example of what happened with Hurricane Katrina was a very valid one)

I have indoor cats...and every once in a while they have the urge to bolt outside. In those instances, be thankful they have a collar on with a name tag. Trust me.
