I put all the ingredients in a crockpot , using beef stew mix and some water,,, the thing is I won't be home by the time my husband gets home and eats this dish... I wonder if it's ok to add cornstarch now (it's been 2 hours since it started cooking on low) ,, I see lots of liquid (enough to cover all the veggies now)... I don't like using flour to thicken the sauce......... so please tell me what I should do... if I don't thicken the sauce it'll be like soup right? (I'm korean we don't eat that, my american husband doesn't tell me what he likes or what he doesn't like.....

You dont say how long you will be cooking it before your husband comes home but you can leave the lid off the crock pot and turn on high and that will allow it to thicken. When you are making the thickener use corn starch and be sure to use COLD water, it mixes much better. If you use a wok do it just like you would stir frying when you thicken some broth, doesnt have to be very thick ,be sure to stir when adding it or it wont mix in very well. There are lots of ways to make beef stew, one way I thicken mine is to add a can of cream of mushroom soup with no water added to it,stir it in leave the lid off and it should thicken fine the soup makes it kind of like gravy

Cornstarch should be fine, my Grandma loved that stuff and it worked just like flour, just get about a quarter cup of water and mix about 1 or 2 table spoons of cornstarch until its dissolved then add it to the stew

Wait until the stew is finished. Make a slurry of cornstarch or arrowroot with a little water - should be like a light pancake batter. Make about a cup full then slowly add some - a little at a time - until it comes to the consistency you desire.

Yes, adding the cornstarch now should be fine. Dissolve it in a little water first, and mic it in. If the cooker isn't hot enough to boil the liquid you run the risk of the sauce not thickening right, but if it will be cooking for a few more hours, I would imagine you would be okay.

Actually, I don't use water for my beef stew in my slow cooker, I use red wine. Wine marinates the meat and makes the most wonderful beef broth as it cooks so slowly. The meat is so fall apart tender. I use very marbled chuck roast and have my butcher cut into chunks for me to save time since the packaged stewing beef is never marbled enough for my foodie tastes. =) I would also omit the olive oil in your recipe. The meat usually has enough fat in it, so the extra olive oil is not necessary and really doesn't do much for flavor in stew.

yes you can add the corn starch what I do is,, mix it with a little water,, to make like a glue paste not too runny but not dry thick,, runny enough to pour out of a bowl,, ( I use like 1/2 cup of corn starch and like 1/3 cup of water) and make sure to stir it well and it should set up well and make a nice thick gravy.

I don't see any reason why not ... try it... a little corn starch would have to mix in that time and usually thickening agents are taken to at least a simmering boil anyway ... sounds good !
peae out and enjoy!

Both are good for you, each fruit/vegetable has different vitamins. And so as more variety, as better. Vegetables have generally less sugar than fruits.
