he is 3 years old. i always remove him immediately from my leg or whatever part of my body he is obsessing over, and i ignore him for a few minutes. but he doesn't seem to get the hint!!! i am his favorite person in the family, and he only does this with me. he is neutered, and that has helped some, but whenever he gets excited or nervous, he frantically humps me! and, uh, one time i went to show my mom something on my leg so i rolled my pant leg up to my thigh and my dog just ran as fast as he could, he was actually tripping over his feet, and he latched himself onto my leg. how gross is that? lol
what can i do????
i refuse to hit my dog (i mean, occasionaly i smack him on the butt when i catch him doing something that he KNOWS darn well that he isn't supposed to be doing, but i don't do it hard. AT ALL. i love my doggie :-).) so what can i do?
please help!
thanks!

You said he is neutered and is 3 years old.
This indicates to me this a behavioral problem & expression of dominence over you...
Add to this that in my experience with dogs, even neutered 3 year old males get humpy sometimes...
What is ideal is to have them trained EARLY IN LIFE that humping people will not be accepted.
Get him a "Friend Pillow" or a "Friend Bear" and since he humps you often, keep it in hand. Everytime he heads towards you, when he gets close, say SIT.... encourage good Sit and discourage anything else. This will help establish some ground rules. No matter if he sits or not & he is heading to hump you, put "Friend Pillow" between him & you.
You have got to start enforcing "No", "Sit", "Back", "Stay" and things like this & since he has been allowed to go this many years humping your leg, then you will have to provide an alternative & spend time teaching him another way of exerting this behavior.

if you are the only one in the family he is doing this to, then it is a dominance issue. you need to take leadership away from him. start by making sure you are the only one who feeds himfor now. he must work for his food: that means he has to take a 45 min walk with you, and he cannot walk in front of you, only beside you or behind. when you get home , he must go lay down quietly. when he is quiet and rested, then give him a command and he can eat. is he doing this anytime or just certain times of the day? the SECOND heruns to you or approaches you to hump, pin him on the floor by his neck. that's what another dog would do to him to tell him "it ain't gonna happen, buster!" he does not respect your authority nor leadership. be careful not to get bit in case he retaliates. you need to find a trainer or dog behaviorist in your area to help you with this. this behavior is COMPLETELY unnacceptable!!!!!!!!! if you try these methods, do them right, and are consistent it will work. in the meantime while reconditioning him, do NOT let him on the furniture or sleep with you because then you are still allowing dominant behavior over you. the squirt bottle or bitter spray won't work if he is that intent on doing it. also, since he is neutered, he DOES NOT need a sexual replacelment to hump. remember, you are trying to stop ALL the dominant behavior and giving him a surrogate will only confuse him. NO DOMINANCE ALLOWED. PERIOD.

This may sound mean but try having a spray/mist bottle handy & give him a shot of water on the nose to see if this will deter him from his amorous activity. There is also a spray product called Bitter Apple. It is used in the same manner but is quite offensive to the animal (the odor). If the water does not work maybe the stronger spray may be necessary. Geez, good luck!

He is showing his dominance over you. You need to become the pack leader, by showing your dog you are the dominate one and not him. Exercise discipline and affection is the way to start teaching your dog, do you walk him? how long? how many times a week? Your answer should be yes, 45 -60 min, everyday. If they are no then you need to work on that.

That's a common behaviour in non-neutered male dogs, it's how they "masturbate". For some reason your dog has a preference for your leg. The only ways to really stop it is to have the dog neutered or try to train him to not do that.

my little dogs did the same thing, I tell ya what to do and its weird, but buy him a medium sized stuff animal and let him go to town. He can't help how he feels and will continue to do this.
Also a male dog smells females (even humans) and it is gross and embarrassing....
each one of my male dogs has their own stuffed animal and I keep it in the laundry room or another room so company doesnt see him do it...lol
Good luck

It is a dog's way to show dominance. You will find that dominant dogs will do this to one another, even those of the same sex.
Your little doggie thinks he owns you.

He is showing his dominance over you! You need to let him know who is boss. If you don't want to punish him. Try keeping a spray water bottle handy, and every time he does it, spray him in the face.

This behavior is a dominance thing...your dog is showing he is the alpha dog and has dominance over you.
