Stunning that believers will try to defend this imaginary goofball even against crimes committed against children.

To those of you who assumed (and I'll never figure out why) that something happened to me as a child, wrong. And, yeah, I DO have lots and lots of anger when I hear about kids who have been hurt.
And, to those of you who say 'where were you', I say, where were you??!! And WHERE was your 'loving, all-powerful' god?

I think you used the word imaginary in your details, and pretty much that is my comment on God.

The second part about helpless children, we as parents need to protect our children, and as a society find parents (including gay parents) for those children whose biological parents aren't there.

bad thing happen to good people and to think that God does nothing is an error. The child may refuse His help but in my many years doing counseling of the abused I saw that There was almost always not only help available but that the person knew it was ther. We ask about this kind of abuse today as if it is more traumatic than some other occurances however the only reason it has a bigger effect is because society has this shameful attitude about these victims. It is the shame that destroys and if sex was not treated in a shameful way then a victim in that area are psychologically more victimized.

God apparently puts a high value on us having a free will available to each of us.

Never saw a case where there was no help available but seems it often is available from someone the person does not accept for some reason. There may be some as in this world accidents do happen.

If a person has a confidant then healing from this type trauma is no different than any other type.

Perhaps we think this life is more than a drop in the bucket of time and we may be wrong on that.

I am sure you know it is man that does these acts and do we have faith in man??

Would you rather we were all just robots, programmed to be good and perfect, rather than have a freedom of choice?. God gave everyone here the freedom to make their own choice. It's not as if He is making people choose to do, or live bad or evil lifestyles, hurting other people. He just gives us each our own choice. We are not like the the angels He created, to Praise and Worship Him. Why do I believe in this God, Because of a lot of reasons. The Human Body is or was Designed, by a Creator, I call God, some call, God, Goddess, great Spirit, etc. I believe all was Created, by this Supreme being. I believe He has a plan, that we do not all have any concept of. But one day, I believe we shall know all things. DJH

Here's the "problem of evil" in a nutshell:

(1) If God were all-good, God would wish to prevent unnecessary evil (i.e., evil which does not result in a greater good).

(2) If God were all-powerful, God could prevent unnecessary evil.

But:

(3) There is unnecessary evil.

Therefore:

(4) Either God is not all-good, or God is not all-powerful, or God does not exist.

Most traditional theists try to get around the problem by denying (3) -- they say that all evil results in a greater good, and this is why the all-good, all-powerful God doesn't prevent it. But your examples put the lie to this argument. The classic response is in Dosteovsky's "The Brothers Karamazov," where Ivan returns the ticket to a heaven which depends for its existence on the suffering of a single child. It's obvious to you and to me that there is evil which no resultant good could redeem. The arguments against this are sophistry, and vile sophistry at that, when you consider the depth of evil and suffering in the world. And the Book of Job -- worth reading, but don't think you'll find an answer there. At the end, God basically says to Job, "You worm -- who are you to question me?" Not a very satisfying answer for me. I prefer Prometheus.

So you have to take your choice from (4) above. Personally I opt for the "God is not all-powerful" choice. I choose this option because I do see cogent philosophical reasons for believing that God exists and is all-good, but I see no philosophical cogency in the notion that God is the actual or potential determiner of all events (which is what the traditional notion of omnipotence boils down to). The finite actualities of the universe have genuine existence, and that means genuine self-determination. The world follows its course, and God cannot -- not just will not, but cannot -- override the self-constituting decisions of finite actualities. I do think God guides the process persuasively by offering lures to finite beings. But they can choose to disregard the lure towards the best action which is possible under their concrete circumstances.

There's a whole school of theology which is built around this premise, called "process theology." If you Google it, you can read more, or if you search the term on Amazon, you can come up with some books to read.

God gave all of our precious, helpless children PARENTS! Instead of asking where was God, we need to ask where was the PARENTS ?? God put parents on earth to multiply and be with them, always to bring children into this world. satan is the one who causes the nasty people to abuse, rape and kill the innocent children. These monsters prey, like wild animals upon our small children, teens, adults. God will be there when Judgement day comes, for the evil who do this to Children. They will get their punishment. The little Children are in Gods arms. They are in Heaven. "Suffer Not the Little Children to Come Unto Me, for such is the Kingdom of Heaven." Anyone who abuses these Little Children will answer to God. The punishment will be severe.

it would seem if an all powerful and loving God could stop suffering, that would be the time

however... we see no such thing

act on one hand, pray on another, see what happens first...

we make choices each day as gods, to do harm or to love others

we can become the miracle, blessing or nightmare and injustice

people attribute nice things to God because to love is as god is...or goodness

people attribute harm to selfishness and greed or a d'evil or "of evil nature and origin, or acting without mutual benefit

man is capable of good and bad, defined by character and actions of mutual benefit or unjust and unequal treatment

I don't know where people get the idea that God is not going to let anything bad happen.

God was in the same place when my son was born with one hand.
My son has never asked why God did that to him, because we raised him with the attitude that there is a reason for it and one day he can ask God. I have the confidence that somehow God will use my son to impact somebodies life and make it better.
God does everything for a reason.

He's right there with those precious, helpless children comforting them. God hates to see them suffer even more than we do, but he can't stop evil from happening. Put the blame where it belongs, on the ones who commit these acts.

Some of us don't have all the answers. I was molested as a child(0-11), and from that experience I've learned a lot. I learned that you can't trust just anyone, and children seem to trust everyone. I went through a lot during my childhood and not once did I blame God. God didn't choose to have that horrible situation happen to me; the man that molested me choose to do it. When we learn to forgive we let go of most of the anger that we keep buried deep inside. I'm guessing there's a lot of anger inside of you, and if you learn to forgive than maybe you wouldn't feel the way you do.

You remarks are in the form of a loaded question. Loaded with your conclusion about the subject.

You have asked this question not for an answer but as a reason to express your disgust with those who believe in God.

Well, it presupposes that religious empires have been telling the truth about God; which they have not.

In a nutshell, God is only a loving scientist from a planet that was formed when our universe was formed (13.7 billion years ago). The Earth was formed 4.5 Billion years ago. Ergo, God and the other scientists on his planet are 9 billion years more advanced than us.

Back to Earth, God is capable of a lot of things but he is not all powerful nor omnipresents, nor all knowing.

Tragedies happen that God does not know about; until he sees them on the 5 o'clock news.

What good is God? Well, he seeded Earth about 550 million years ago. And, he and everyone on his planet have a reconstruction formula for themselves and for us.

What is our reason for being here on Earth?

To choose harmony or disharmony as a way of life. If you choose harmony, you will be reconstructed and become a good neighbor on Planet H.

But even if you choose disharmony, you will be reconstructed and sent not to Hell, but to Planet HD; not for punishment but to quarantine you away from the harmony loving people of Planet H (Heaven)

Have you choked yet?

Read the book of Job. Somtimes people/families have to go through trials, its not God making bad things happen, but He measures us in how well we deal with adversity. Reading the book of Job will help with seeing who is doing the hurting and why it happens.
