I am 22 and was taught that alcohol/drugs/smoking/sex etc... is bad for you so I have completely avoided doing all of those things. Would it help me become more sociable and less anxious if I started drinking because I've been having some severe anxiety problems lately. I'm not talking about getting completely wasted or anything but I was wondering if I'm missing out? Or should I be glad I haven't started because it isn't worth it? I want to have fun and enjoy life but I don't want to be stupid and do anything I wil later regret.

A couple drinks is O K , but too many people don't know their limit. You sound like a guy who knows his limit, and has his head on straight.

However, your severe anxiety problems suggest the need for a visit with a psychiatrist, and a small dosage of anti-anxiety medication. That will bring your body and brain chemistry back in balance If you go that route, lay off the booze, unless your doctor says 1-2 drinks would be ok. Good Luck!!

Drinking definately makes you relax and makes social situations less akward. However, it's no solution to your problem. If you want to go out to bars and have fun, but are worried about drinking alcohol, just drink a soda. No one will notice or care. If you really do have anxiety problems, try talking to a therapist. They can give you helpful hints for dealing with life's stresses.

Drinking in social situations might lessen your anxiety but be careful not to over do it. After 2 drinks get a water to push the alchol through your system that way you'll feel the happy buzz but not get wasted. Oh and always have a driver losing your lisence is not worth it.

Absolutely! I suggest waking up one Saturday morning and mixing yourself a big, strong drink. Lots of 'em. Call up every one you have ever felt strongly about--good or bad--and let them know exactly how you feel and why. Go into excruciating detail. Later, take a drive to the corner and get yourself a hooker. A good one. On the way home, you will definitely want to get a pack of cigarettes--it must be done when you're drinking and humping--I like Djarum. Go to a tobacco seller, they will have what you are looking for.

Good luck, my friend. Please, do keep us posted.

You're 22 years old you make the decision, dont do what we tell you to do. Drinking can lead to trouble especially if you have never drank before, you might like it and keep drinking. So if I were in your shoes I'd not drink and go see a doc about you're anxiety problems.

What's wrong with just being yourself. If you like to drink, drink. IF you don't like to drink, have a coke. Bear in mind that your liver does not fully develop until you are 26. But setting the drinking age at 26 would be prudish at best.

That's a decision you have to make for yourself. Drinking socially is perfectly fine. Just don't become an alcoholic and DON'T start smoking.

then socially drink, you will get out in a social atmosphere meet new ppl and have a good time, its just a more laid back and relaxed atmosphere, as long as you are responsible about drinking and you want to do it for social reaosns then go for it, having a beer or 2 here and then won't hurt you....its when you go over the edge thats when it hurts
