Mumps is a virus generally caught in childhood. The worst effect is generally on the male reproductive system, possibly rendering a male infertile if contracted after puberty.

Yep. They can cause sterilization in men, birth defects in the unborn.

And in addition to the sterility in in young males, it is contagious, and they hurt like hell.
