A soldiers pay depends on their rank. Example: A soldier who has been in the military about 4 years and is a Spec.; about $1800. every 2 weeks. You get bonuses for re-enlisting and for deployment, also. On first joining the military, expect from $900.-$1100. a month.

It depends on the rank and the years of service, but i can tell you right now it is not much at all for the job they do. Plus they get paid one set up amount the army does not pay for extra hours or for weekend work, you are commited 27/7 for just a very small amount of money. That is why whoever joins the military it is for pure patriotism. However, the military benefits such as free healthcare and tax free within the military instalations are very well worth it.

Just as a basis for comparison: My husband is an E-4 (SrA) with almost 3 years in service. After taxes, SGLI, and everything else they take out, he's taking home a litltle less than $1600 a month. It was about $100 a month less when he was an E-3. But we llive on Base so we don't get BAH (housing allowance), which varies depending on where you live and the size of your household. If you are unmarried you have to live in the dorms so you don't have to worry about BAH.

Technically, poverty level. I am being totally honest, these men and women who you entrust your very safety to make less in their first year than a person working at McDonald's. Amazing that congress gets hefty pay raises, yet when the military gets a raise it is normally 1% over 5 years. Think about it for a minute, these men and women in the military ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY, those who give every waking and sleeping minute to the service are getting paid less than most teenagers in this country.
