Can I espresso-grind some good strong coffee beans, or do I need to buy espresso beans?

All espresso beans are coffee beans but not all coffee beans are espresso beans. You can use any roast you want in an espresso machine, but the best flavor will come from actual espresso beans which are roasted pretty dark. This brings out the sweet caramely rich taste. If you're worried that you'll only be able to use it in an espresso machine, I think espresso roast brews up to be a really great cup of coffee. It is smooth and balanced.

You can use any kind of coffee bean for espresso as long as it is ground fine for espresso. Only difference between the bean is that beans for espresso are roasted longer. The darker the coffee, the darker the roast. I wouldn't suggest using flavored coffees in an epresso machine. And, unlike what the person above said, the caffeine content in espresso is the same as regular coffee. The only difference is that espresso is more concentrated so if one drinks a lot of espresso one will ingest a lot of caffeine.

The beans are the same its just the way each is ground. Espresso is a very fine grind - almost powdery while regular coffee is a coarser grind. Types of beans do have a lighter or stronger flavor based on how they are roasted.

Expresso beans have a really dark roast, I think you could try the grind on a dark roast coffee.
