Because each song costs $0.99. And you wouldn't wanna enter your credit card number EVERY time you buy a song, would you? You only have to put it in once this way.

you shouldnt have to give your credit card number on itunes. I always used the prepaid cards u can buy at a store but still never had to give a credit card number when i created my account.

You have to give your credit card number so they can charge that card when you buy a song.

When I signed up, I did not have to give a credit card number. That's because I said I was just using gift cards, which don't require a credit card, so itunes never required me to give them my card number.

So when you are looking at the music store you have a better chance of impulse buying a song since your credit card number is already setup

I think you don't have, only when you want to buy a song. Besides it may depend if you create an account through iTunes application or website.
