When I came home today their was a lump on my cats throat that was not there yesterday. The lump is rather large and easy to see from a distance. It is on the left side facing her. It moves with ease and is very firm. Yesterday she was fine and today she had a bite about the size of a golf ball. I have checked her for a bite mark but there is not one any ideas

i would say take it to the vet. it could be as simple as he swallowed something, but you never knowe it could be like the early form of cancer. get it to the vet asap and hope he will be fine. confort yourself and him by holding him and giving positive comments.
good luck.

Without being able to actually feel the lump and exactly where it is, pretty much anything anyone says is just going to be random guessing. The vet is the only one who's going to be able to give you a real answer.
That said, when my cat developed a lump on her throat, it turned out to be thyroid cancer. It moved pretty freely, so that in the beginning you could easily feel it one day and not be able to find it the next (I guess it was moving behind her windpipe or something).
Before the tests came back, the vet was certain it was hyperthyroid. Apparently that can feel pretty much the same (although I haven't felt it on my other cat, who DOES have hyperthyroid).

Maybe the cat could have swallowed something and got it stuck in its throat, but if shes coughs alot thats what it is. Could be a tumor, or the cat could have fell or bumped into something and a knot came up.

It could be a benign cyst, but I would take her to the vet to be sure. They will biopsy it.
