Yes absolutely. The Lord knows your heart and your motives.

That's the problem with tithes. A church will have you believe that it must go to the church. Gotta support your preacher, you know! If one must be compelled to give then why not just give? After all that's what God wants. For us to be giving. And at no set rate!

That tithing "requirement" is taken from the Old Testament where Abraham "volunteered" his tithe and was not required. And the sacrifice was in animals, in which the meat and skins did not go to waste. So I don't see how it was a sacrifice anyway. Sounds like an excuse for a party.

In the New Testament Jesus states that the old is no longer and he would lay down the new guidelines for us. I don't see anywhere in there where Jesus "required" tithing. As I recall he went into the temple and was pissed to see money changers in a place of worship.

Tithing was to support the poor before there were taxes that paid for food stamps and stuff like that. If you pay taxes, that's the same as tithing. Use your money to get the car fixed.

If that's what you want to do then it's ur choice but another option is to call the pastor or church treasurer to pick it up or most importantly pick you up too if you still want to go to church. That will solve everything and you will be able to take your tithes to church yourself.

Everything's alright. The question is: where did you intend to give them? If you intended to give it to your church, nothing prevents you from doing that. Unless you felt it was payment for the church service!!!! You can keep it for the next Sunday, and give double if you want.
On the other hand, it is important to give to good charitable causes other than church as well - especially if something strikes your heart that your church is not contributing to.

I'd say yes. You might also hold your tithes until the next week.

I agree that Christians are not commanded to tithe. We're to give "not out of compulsion, because God loves a cheerful giver." If you want to tithe, God bless you much!

Your giving has nothing to do with specifically giving to the church. It is an attitude of your heart that God is looking for...not funding. Nor is your giving limited to money alone, as so many people make the mistake of thinking. It is about your time, effort, and every aspect of your life.
So, yes, give to whom you prayerfully decide is the best use of your money, but when it comes down to it, I think the Lord would rather you fix your car, than give just to be giving.

No it isn't, you should support your local church, as long as they are a bible teaching church, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.
