Kind of like a scone, but lighter and fluffier. They can be savory or sweet. Basic ingredients are a fat (often shortening, but I like butter), flour, baking soda or baking powder and a liquid like water or milk, They are *very* easy to make and pretty quick (in fact, you don't want to handle too long). They must be eaten fresh -- when they get cold, they get a little tough or even rock-like.

An American biscuit is just an amazing comfort food. My mom used to serve it with SOS (creamed chipped beef, boiled egg slices and peas) on Sundays sometimes. Just really, really comforting. And hot biscuits with butter and honey! Oh, man.

I think corn bread is the only other bread-stuff in the same class as biscuits for nostalgia.

Personally, I use the term biscuit to refer to a dog treat. However, there are plenty of biscuits for people to eat which refer to a small, round bread product which we usually put butter on & use to accompany the last meal of the day.

What we call biscuits are made with baking powder flour and other ingredients and are usually soft inside mostly they are approx 1inch or less high and approx 2 or 3 inch around. Mostly ate at breakfast. I have been to England and my step-daughter lives there so I have ate what you call biscuits and they really aren't what we would call cookies. They were good but not cookies.

They are a bread. Flour, baking powder, a dash of salt and a tad bit of sugar and milk or butter milk. You can roll your dough out and cut with a round cutter or make drop biscuits and bake. Here in Texas we like to eat them for breakfast with home made white gravy for breakfast.

Various types of bread doughs usually about 2" across. Some are made with butter milk, or high yeast. In Europe you call these dinner rolls.

Cookies of course in America refer to sweet hard or soft deserts that have no yeast in them.

I would say what we call biscuits are like dinner rolls. Something we usually eat with our dinner or they could be dog treats. Either one, take your pick.

biscuits are served at dinner, they are like rolls, but have no yeast in them. They generally use baking soda or baking powder to rise, plus flour, milk and salt.
