The strangest thing happened to me today while I was shopping at my favorite Fur Coat boutique. A saleswoman I've never seen there before kept approaching me and saying "Let ME know if you need anything." She emphasized the ME for some reason. Anyway, I ignored her annoyingness, and had another saleswoman who I always buy from help me. When I went to pay for the coat, she approached us and helped the other saleswoman wrap up the coat, even though the other sales woman told her she could handle it herself. She replied "I would like to help this customer." What is going on?!

Maybe she knows you but you don't remember. or she's hitting on you, or she wants to be your friend.

Does sound incredibly odd, especially if the saleswomen aren't working on commission (I would be surprised that they aren't working on commission or some type of bonus program, though).
If you are a regular customer in the store, then I would have indicated to the first saleslady that either "I have already been helped" or "I am here to see (this lady)" if you knew the name of the other saleswoman who usually assists you. It would have just been polite to let her know that you were looking for a specific saleswoman, so that she could use her time to look for and assist other customers, rather than a really sad attempt to break in on the sale.
Of course, maybe the other saleswoman you hadn't seen was new to the store altogether, and she was looking for the experience. She might have sensed that you would have given her a positive experience (because you planned to buy) and she may have wanted to observe the end of the transaction as your usual saleswoman completed the sale and wrapped your purchase.

Maybe she's going a little over the top trying to learn how things are done there, or getting to know the regulars? Or she was really bored and needed something to do?
The other saleswoman might have talked to her about it after you left, so I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it happenes again.

Perhaps she is just trying to provide super customer service so that you will feel special and return in the future. The dead critter coat should make you feel so 1970.

It's possible that although they do not get commission, they are somehow rated on the dollar total or number of sales they make. This would explain why she was insistent she get credit for the sale.
