It can, only if the person allows it. My husband's parents didn't like me and my parents didn't like him. But they had to deal with it. Now they love the both of us and would fight anyone who said anything about us.

Yes it does. From experience I would know. I have been with my boyfriend for six years. His parents have never liked me. I do not understand why. Maybe because he is the oldest in his family and his mom didnt want to lose him since he and I were hanging out alot. But them not liking me has had a big impact on our relationship I absolutely hate going to their house for the holidays and he is a little angry with me. But if they were nicer I would not mind going there. Anyway if your sig others parents dont like you dont worry about it because what it all comes down to is that you two are happy with each other. This is what we realized. He finally told his parents that nothing they would say would ever keep me away and that we are serious about each other and it is none of their business because he loves me. So lately things have been okay although I know inside his parents despise me. On the other hand I know that our relationship is stronger than their not liking me. So F them.

I think you know that the answer is obviously yes in big capital letters. You have to get along with your bfs/ gfs natural baggage to some extent.

It takes alot of the fun out it. You won't get invited to there family stuff. Cookouts. Hangout at sisters. BLAH BLAH BLAH...So they go, you stay. They always have their peeps in there ear telling them you no good for them. Its a definatley an uphill battle.

Yes, but if the person remains calm, courteous and considerate with no nasty behaviors . . . the bf / gf will see that they are worth it and the family may even come around.

yes, this can really affect your relationship. But the choice is still yours. if you really loves he/she, this doesn't really matters. Just let your partner knows in a good manner way, i', sure he/she can understand. if possible just move out and go visit them sometimes. if this problem can't be resolve, then move on.
