Increase troop levels and secure the Iranian and Syrian border, which most foreign terrorists enter through.
Attack the insurgent strongholds and concentrated areas of insurgents, with mostly American Forces and some trust worthy Iraqi military.
Properly train and equip the Iraqi Police
More use of Special operations teams, mainly Army Special Forces, Rangers and Delta Force
Put the Army in Iraq under the command of a Special Forces General.
Hire some foreign professional civilians (former South African Special Forces, former Israeli Commando's that would be under the command of the US Army).
Utilize Arabic and Farsi language experts that work in other US Government Agencies, for interrogation and intelligence gathering.
Bring some retired Military personnel that have a lot of experience in counter insurgency and anti terrorist and counter terrorism as consultants.

I would let my military fill out a survey and have the public do the same. I dont personally know enough about the situation (no one really does because you know he's hiding info, just like anything else that the general public shouldn't know)
I would have the military member's input play a large part in my decision. Since they are the ones who are directly involved.
Any way it goes, I'd pay the military more money! I'd stop letting them use plasma tvs for bulletin boards! I hate that. I'm in the Air Force and every buiding has tons of plasmas used for bulletin boards! Especially in the hospitals! That should make you mad as civilians, that ur tax money is going towards 42" plasma bulletin boards instead of better tools and better pay!

Well, I'm not one to complain about the Iraq war. People that are constantly complaining about really irritate me. I think the presdent right now is doing the best he can under all the circumstances. What more can he do in this fraustrating situation? I would do what he's doing now; push for harder and more training, so we can eventually turn it over to them and we can get out of there.

I would call Saddam Hussein to sit with the Iraqi minister of interior and work out the differences. The american Army would go under the command of the united nations who would use them together with a multi national armed police like contingent. This contingent should be formed mainly by Arab Countries.Their role would only be police duty. Let the Iraqi people choose their way of life.

get out ASAP. completely withdraw. the presence of U.S. troop is what is causing the violence. it's so bad that Iraq was better off under Hussein. the no. of iraqis that have died since the invasion is somewhere in between 240,000 and 650,000. in the sanctions that went on for ten years prior to the invasion 500,000 mostly children died. this is uncontroversial. this is what Madeleine Albright said:
L. Stahl: We have heard that half a million children have died. I mean, that's more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?
M. Albright: I think this is a very hard choice, but the price -- we think the price is worth it.

Double troop levels, implement classic counterinsurgency tactics, arrest Al Sadr, and destroy the Mahdi army.

Be it that the American public doesn't know all the facts that our gov't officials know, I don't think I or anyone else on this site could give you a "good solution" let alone a good opinion.
