(-: This is so odd, but I was just thinking about this question earlier this week -- what does Olive Oyl's body type say to women?

If anything, it's a little degrading to girls who are naturally on the skinny side. O.O. isn't considered a hot chick.

I don't know why -- OO seems pretty smart, and she's got at least two guys lusting after her, but I've never met a woman who wanted to be OO. I think it's the hair. Now, maybe if she let her hair down, she'd be sending confusing messages to women -- be skinny with good hair and you can get lots of men. I don't think women are willing to sacrifice good hair for a couple of sailors, though.

(-: Good question. Made me laugh!

No way. She dresses extremely well and with class without showing any parts of her body in a futile way. Her hair is well done. She wears glasses that are perfect and gives her an executive look. She has nothing to do with a Barbie but more with an executive woman going to work and also taking care of 5 kids. Didn't know Barbie had 5 kids. I hope some of the young girls out there make it to her level and show the rest of America that woman can succeed in high profile jobs. She's an example to follow. So is Hillary.

Its not like Olive is some sexy hot chick with lots of boyfriends. If anything she shows young girls what not to look like. I doubt that any young girl would want to have her body looking like Olives.

olive does the best she can, with what she's got.
obviously, her public image is a popular and positive one,
or she wouldn't be featured in so many iconic symbols in our society: costumes, pez dispensers, characters at theme parks, advertisements, etc. etc...
young girls see olive as a personality,
rather than as a fashion figure.
she is seen as someone who loves & thinks a lot.
