my sister has that same promblem so i know where you are coming from. i think you should put either vinagar or salt on the tip of your nails so would alwas taste it when u try to bite your nails. or you could put on gloves or something to cover them up. my last suggestion is that you try really hard to not bite them. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!

For starters, it is good that you are biting nails and not nose picking. Think about that.
Next thing is how old are you? It usually ends in childhood, this anxiety habits, which includes thumb sucking, bed wetting etc.
Come to think of it, I did have a friend who chewed off her fingernails up to university. I havent seen her since but I still distinctly remember her 3.5 mm nails. She was a very tall, slender very pretty girl with scary looking fingers. At that time we were all insensitive and told her she was kooky and to go see the psychiatrist.
------
Is nail biting common?
Nail biting is a common habit. It is usually not a serious problem for children. It becomes most common in adolescence when almost half of all children bite their nails to some degree.
What problems are caused by biting the fingernails?
Most children that bite their nails have no problems. In some cases, nail biting may cause:
* a bacterial infection
* warts around the nail bed
* bleeding
* permanent nail damage.

ive been biting my nails since, wow, forever. lol. my boyfriend however bought me something from the mall. from dead sea spa, and its like a nail buffer that makes your nails shiney, and i also pick the skin around my nails when there are no more nails left to bite, well the shiney nails dont go well when u have little stubs, so it encouraged me for the FIRST time to NOT bite. its been a month and a half now and after the first couple weeks i didnt even want to bite them anymore and for the first time in 20 years i have sorta long nails. i would suggest finding some sorta product or something that encourages u to grow them out. or even if u can just keep yourself from biting the first couple weeks by everytime u catch urself biting STOP!

Instead of biting the nail, try massaging underneath the nail with a toothpick. Don't puncture the skin underneath, just poke it a little. It gives the sensation of biting . I tried this method when I was trying to stop biting my nails. I used to chew them down til they were bleeding. But now, I have beautiful , long healthy nails because I did this trick. Also, now that my nails are long, I use my fingernails to massage under the other nails. Yes, it seems silly, but it works and I have passed this info to others who tried it and they told it worked for them too.

I've been a chronic biter for as long as I remember. Nothing ever worked for me.
I went to a costume party and painted my nails with black polish to go with the costume. I noticed I wouldn't put my fingers in my mouth cause I know that nail polish is poison and can really F*** you up if ingested. So that's what I've been doing for the last 3 years, painting my nails black. Sure I get funny looks, but since I'm somewhat of a metal-head I can get away with it. Right now I'm not wearing it, It's been off for about 4 months but when I start 'getting the urge' I repaint them and wear it for a couple of months. Its the ONLY thing that's ever worked for me. Good Luck

Hi. I have bitten my nails for years, and I always stop during lent for the entire time...I always think that I kicked the habit, but I'm still biting! There is "no bite" stuff you can buy at Walgreens near the nail polish (I think it's Sally Hansen)....good luck!

put a rubber band on both your wrists and whenever you catch yourself biting your nails snap yourself with it. your mind will eventually associate nail biting with pain and therefore you will no longer want to
