Biting Midges are USUALLY found on farm animals. My 2 dogs are a RARE case, especialy here in Illinois but they did get the Biting Midges from infested straw bought at a farm. This has been torturing US for OVER a YEAR NOW!It is SO SAD TO BE ABLE to HELP the symptoms, but not CURE them.I have been to 4 Vetrinarians who were no help,we tore out OUR CARPET,had an EXTERMINATER COME HERE 5 TIMES,asked the Village's mosquito program what they,or we could do to get rid of them(said no),asked the head Vertrinary Parisitologist at PerdueUniversity if he had any suggestions(said no),we've tried just about every chemical you can think of recommended for that type of insect. We even bought a Machine Guarenteed to ELIMINATE BITING MIDGES and mosquitos cost$259that was advertised on the Television(waste of money)! We're HOPING someone in the SOUTHERN US might be able to give us a POSITIVE IDEA because I'm told MIDGES happen more down there on pets.GOD BLESS YOU DOG LOVERS,Thanks,VERY sincerely,Pam

This may be worth a try. I used it to kill yard fleas that were so bad this year that we had to treat all the dogs and cats 3-4 times, bathe and fle powder and rug powder and chemicals on the lawn and carpet. I bought a bar of octagon soap..hard to find. It's old fashioned and I melted it in warm water and then mixed it in a sprayer with mouthwash and water and used it in the lawn sprayer bottle that the chemical came in and used it on the end of the hose and sprayed the grass with it. I'm sure it can be used in anything that you can spray it with. I read the remedy for insects out of a natural gardening book. I intended to use it on my grapes but used it on the fleas instead. The soap is about 79 cents and I used cheap mouthwash, you may not want to use the mouthwash, it might burn, but the soap is still an option. Good luck. Sounds awful to me. I don't know what they are. They have minges in Maine but they die in cold weather and never heard of them and animals. I did have a kitten come here with a hole in her and was told a flie had laid an egg in there. i poured peroxide in it and then salt water. She got better.

One natural source you might try is Avons "Skin So Soft" towelttes. They work for humans. If you can't find the towelettes, take a small amount of the liquid product and smooth over your hands, then smooth over the dog. Remember, a small amount, not gobs and gobs. Also, Seven Dust (no more than 5% strength) would work, however, if your dog gets wet you'll have to reapply and it can be toxic if too much is applied. Good Luck.

Have you guys tried Ivomec? That's what they use on large animals for biting midges.

They can't stand Skin-So-Soft. It is an Avon product.
