i have an 7-8 year old cat. she keeps "leaving her mark" everywhere around the house. she doesn't have any kidney infections and also there IS another cat in the house who she fights with. i don't want to get rid of her. does anyone know (for sure) why she is doing this sorta thing?

If your cat has only just started to do this, then it is usually a sign that she is feeling stressed in some way. Is your other cat a new addition on the scene perhaps, or are you not showing enough affection and attention?

She is marking her territory to warn off her rival.

Assuming both your cats have been spayed/neutered (is the other cat a male?), the only way to cope with this is to allow them to have their own "safe" areas where they can't get at each other. (A bathroom or a bedroom is normally pretty good), but can still come and go. If they know they are not going to be forced into contact with each other all the time, the situation will ease over a period of a few months. Although they will probably never be the best of friends, they should learn to tolerate each other and the spraying should stop.

I had that problem with my ten year old Asya, she hated Jordan and started spraying everywhere. When I realized it was Jordan she was taken her anger out on, she always start a fight with him, while fighting I punished Jordan and babied Asya. It worked don't know if it will help in your case but the other cat could be doing something to annoy her or you are doing something different. Keep a eye out for what is going on before she does this, could give you a clue.

I sorta had the same prob. all you have to do is pay attention to both cats. the cat that is ''leaving her mark'' is jealous that there is another cat in the house. my cats are the same way.give your cats the same amount of attention. that would be the best thing.

I spent 300.00 dollars to find out there was nothing wrong with my cat. He was marking with pee in the most horrible places , my couch. ottoman. the vet told me to confine him to a small area then slowly let him have a larger area as long as he uses the litter box. She also told me about a product called phera way. it is expensive though. it is an air freshener device you put in your litter box room that attracts the cat to use the litter box. I did not buy this however. I am using the cheap confining idea for now.

yea if you just got the other cat or just moved her in she is most likely feelin threatened by the other cat and so wants to mark her territory.....if none of the above and the cat just started doing it out of nowhere you can try giving it time and keeping her in a separate partof the house

Territorial marking.. is she spayed? Its a myth that only the males mark. If she's not spayed, get her spayed... hormones are a huge cause for territorial behaviors. And try giving her her own space in the house, with her own toys, food, and bowls... a place that no other pets can go.

Oh yes! All the time lol, it makes me jump up with fright and say sorry (cats name) and then I realise it is just one of the cats rubber balls that I am stepping on. It is so funny when that happens! lol

Go to Petsmart and get Nature's Miracle and a small UV light. Use the UV light to find the spots where she's marking. Clean with Nature's Miracle (works best if you haven't cleaned that urine stain with another chemical). It will neutralize the smell which is a smell that is VERY hard to get out of things. Also get this litter (http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441779416&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302033738&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023690&bmUID=1161910874840&itemNo=32&Nao=24&Ntt=litter&In=All&previousText=litter&N=2) I have seen cats where their owners have tried everything and were about to put them to sleep but then tried this litter and they only go in the box now. Also try Feliway (http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441780659&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302025596&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023690&bmUID=1161910981731&itemNo=0&Ntt=feliway&In=All&previousText=feliway&N=2) it helps to control their behavior which can cause them to mark and makes her calm down too.

Shes just marking her territory cats are like that try and give her a space thats just hers and not the other cats. that way she will feel that she has her own space. thats why cats fight also its all for there own space territory.
