OK. 800 miles / 17 mpg = 47.059 gallons of gas. You will need about 47.059 gas to go 800 miles. Since gas costs 2.19 per gallon, $2.19 * 47.059 gallons = $103.06. Of course, your mileage may vary, and the price of gas may differ in different markets, so don't cut it to close. I'd budget $120 for gas, and maybe you'll come back with a few extra dollars.

840 miles
divided by 17 mpg
equals about 50 gallons of gas required
times 2.19 per gallon
equals about $110

have a safe trip.

since you get 17 mi/gal and each gal costs 2.19, you know that for every 17 miles, it will cost you 2.19
set up an equation and cross-multiply
(17 mi/ 2.19) = (840 mi/x) =
1839.6 = 17x
now you divide and figure it out...
about $108.22, depending on what the exact mileage is

800 divided by 17.

2.19 times the number you get from the above.

are you counting just gas? or wear on the car? or your time? or different stations charging different prices? or is renting a more fuel efficient car more thrifty? There is a lot to think about. Is the trip worth it? Gas will run you about $103.06 for the 800 miles at 17MPG.

800 divided by 17, multiply your answer by the price of gas.

800 devided by 17mpg = 47 gallons x $2.19 = $102.93

But if I were taking this trip I would add in an extra 5 gallons for idling and stopping. (New total with safety $113.88)

first thing you should do is sell that gas hog you are driving, unless it is a ferrari, then you would be cool. divide 800 by 17 to get gallons, then multiply that by 2.19 to get dollars
