i always use instast potatoes when i make shepherd's pie, they never taste overcooked when the pie is done, i just make the potatoes on the stovetop and than i put it on top of the rest of ingredients, comes out great!

I am from Barbados and in my country we use the potatoes but since I am up her I use the Instant potatoes and it tastes good.

Yes, you can but they won't taste as great. If you have to use instant, use a good brand like Idaho.

Yes, that's what we do. It takes too much time to mash real ones (althought they are better).
