This really depends on your age and there age.If they are old you could scare them , if you are very young, they may punish you.I
am sorry you do not believe but that is your choice I would just wait for the moment that "feels " right to you.I personally told My mother something once that hurt Her deeply,She is gone now and often I cry,I ask Myself why did you say that to Her.So maybe never tell them.Good luck with Your decision.

That's a tricky one. No two families are the same.
I suggest that you prepare for the worst. Maybe your family won't react that poorly, and if they don't, then it'll be a pleasant surprise. It's much better than going in with the expectation that things won't go so bad and the family exploding.
I suggest picking one family member and bringing it up to him alone. Let him know your concerns. Ideally, this should be the family member you think is the most open-minded. Sometimes people can surprise you, but roll with your instincts.
Now, hopefully, this one family member is nodding and absorbing this rather than yelling expletives at you and "outting" you to the rest of your family. With the two of you armed with this information, you can come out to the rest of your family, and your crutch can be there to talk to your family and support you.
And if they throw an utter fit, then you may need to back down and tell them you'll give their religion another try. That usually placates them, because they think their religion is so perfect that you're just going "through a phase."

WHy are you turning away from your true father, that made you, why don't you at least try to know the Love he has for you, what good is being an athiest going to do, you'll walk around lost with no sense of direction not knowing why you were put here, why you have a soul, to think, feel, love, wander about, we have circumstances in our lives that will always leave you empty if you don't seek the truth and the light instead of darkness.

I never really felt the need to. I figured it out pre-teen and I did stop going to church so I am sure they had some idea. But they never asked me, and I never felt that I had a reason to tell them.

my family doesn't know I'm an atheist. you don't have to tell them. think about it, do you really want to hear all of that nonsense that goes along with coming clean. for me, it's not worth it.

I had the same situation awhile back. I just told them religion bores me to death so I choose not to participate.

Say, "I hail the great one, Satan!" When they freak out, say, "lol No I'm not a Satan worshipper, I'm just an atheist."

Well if you do not believe in GOD then lie to them. What difference does it make if there is no GOD?
May GOD richly bless you.
