People say that "god" answers their prayers. I mean we see it all the time in football games when a player scores a touchdown. So, I ask myself, why arent these people praying for all the dying people in the hospitals? I mean, if "god" will help some guy score a touchdown, then SURELY he will help a dying child, right? Well, Princeton did a study on just this very thing, here is the link:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4681771.stm
As you have seened , prayer had no effect. Similarly, The prayer the guy made after he scored the touchdwon had no effect on him socring the touchdwon.
So, I ask, with all honesty, Why Pray??

because mumbling into your hands and pretending that a god hears you and is taking notes is the intelligent, reasonable, logical thing for thinking people to do. (cough, cough)

When you go to bed tonight, spend a little time praying for all the dying people in the world. Maybe it will do them so good, maybe it won't. But at the very least, it will do some good for you, because it will help you get in touch with the best part of yourself - the part that cares about others, the part that has love and compassion for all those suffering in this world, and the part that - God or no God - makes you a beautiful human being.

Because prayer has nothing to do with we desire. Although God ALWAYS hears us when we pray with sincerity from the heart and with Faith.
However you must understand He gives always what we need; shelter, food, job, friends, etc. He is not a magic genie or some microwave to answer right away or in the manner that we expected. Thats what this culture has brought to many people in this country of all ages, backgrounds, and education. A mentality that God doesn't care, is too busy, or that science is more believable. All of that is a big Lie coming from the Devil.
Usually its a yes, no or wait in response to prayer. If for example, a loved one dying eventually dies we must believe that He allowed it to happen for a reason. In this situation He said no, because He wanted that person with Him in heaven. Of course it still grieves us and it hurts, but some things that happen in life are not to be understood in this lifetime but in the afterlife.

Prayer only works when it is Gods will, when we pray for things we don't need, God probably is not going to grant it, God meets our needs when we are sincere, but we all have to understand God has a plan for each and every one of us, and sometime it is the hardships where we learn the most valuable lessons, God disciplines us and watches over us, because when we accept The Lord into our life, we belong to him.

How very cynical so many of you sound, and yet I will pray for you with my faith in God which I pray you also will find, if you truly search. God is not just someone you magically gives all that we ask for, like some fairy god-father waving his magic wand and granting our every wish. He stretches us, grows us and does answer our prayers. Perhaps you're not praying in faith because you are too busy demanding that He gives you what you want instead of what He knows you need.

Does prayer work? Hundreds of millions prayed for God to stop Hitler before he killed 30+ million during WWII. Considering the sucess of their efforts, God is either powerless, heartless, both, or does not exist at all.

Genius,
ANYONE can pay to have a study done and then have the results claim whatever they want.
A STUDY does not prove anything except what those PAYING for the study want it to say.
If you dont want to pray, fine.... you're losing out on help, security, peace, love and help! Why talk about it if you feel good about NOT praying, then why continue to talk about it????
Seems to me you are NOT feeling right about it and you wanna stir up emotions to try and make yourself feel better.
THAT is MY study.
Cheers Brother-

Why indeed. Luckily for your prayer is not compulsory so why waste a good question?
