If the Koran clearly forbids them to do so?
"Let the believers not make friends with infidels in preference to the faithful—he that does this has nothing to hope for from God—except in self-defense" (3:28).
"Believers, do not make friends with any but your own people. They will spare no pains to corrupt you. They desire nothing but your ruin. Their hatred is evident from what they utter with their mouths, but greater is the hatred which their breasts conceal" (3:118).

"You see many among them making friends with unbelievers. Evil is that to which their souls prompt them. They have incurred the wrath of God and shall endure eternal torment. . . .You will find that the most implacable of men in their enmity to the faithful are the Jews and the pagans, and that the nearest in affection to them are those who say: ‘We are Christians'" (5:80–82).

The Koran never says Muslims are our friends of course. But the rhetoric of all Muslim apologist groups is that Muslims are trying to be our friends. I have read the Koran, I am just quoting it so that you can see why I would be curious.

where did you get that from?
if you quote the Quran that means you have read it...so what did it say?
that is right I doubt you read it.

Know what you are talking about before you saying instead of posting random verses and not looking at the big picture

I'll try to simplify my answer and make it short.
I think you had a mix up, there is a difference in how to behave with Christians and Jew, Pagan, atheists, Muslims, and your close relatives if they were Muslims.
I'll explain a say by prophet Mohammad PB UH, just an example to simplify the things.
Your neighbors have there rights,
1) As a neighbor
2) the neighbor who is Muslim for both being a neighbor and being Muslim.
3) Your relative , being neighbor, Muslim and relative so, has three rights.
_______________
Christians and Jew they have special treatment , and if they are not indulge in a war against us we should treat them with respect, can eat from there meals when they slaughter lamb or other halal animals, but not the Atheists or pagans. Muslim can marry a christian woman, etc...
So, dealing with you in regular life and making friendship is different from being a brother.

NOT all Muslims, They are like any other else. they have good and they have bad ones. But The Holy Quraan, don't ask anyone to do anything bad, On the contrary Muslims are really good people, as a result Muslim Countries also have Terrorist Attacks.
If that what Muslims do so they won't do it to their countries at least.
The ones who drop bombs and do so are NOT MUSLIMS they are TERRORISTS and they are Bad to Muslims as any other people

Those books are old.

The bible says working on a sunday is punishable by death, but no one can stick to those rules at this day and age.

I think Muslims can be friends with anyone they want because there comes a point where reason comes before ancient text and outdated dogma.

the nice thing is that u don't accept muslims either as friends or as enemies:D i doubt u ever dealt with one. free ur mind out of the prison of media and search on ur own. yes muslims are not allowed to be friends with other religions, but they have duties towards them. to live in peace with them and to protect their temples and churches. if u live ia an arab country u will see how muslims and christians live side by side in peace. i am a muslim ihave to chritian neighbours in my building and i don't set their houses on fire nor bomb their cars.
yet not all muslims follow every single order in the Quran as not all christians go to church on Sunday.

Well the first one says not in preference to your own, not to not make friends. The next two are a bit more hard line but likely darn good advice from what I have seen on Y!A.

Christians calim to be my friend even when the Bible forbids that.

It's great. Some of my closest friends are hypocrites.

But then, my closest friends also know better than to live their life according to some ancient books.
