The Protestant Reformation was a Christian reform movement in Europe which is generally deemed to have begun with Martin Luther's Ninety-Five Theses although a number of precursors such as Johannes Hus predate that event. As a historical period, the Reformation is considered to have ended with the Peace of Westphalia in 1648;however, many of the denominations that arose during that period continue to exist and Protestantism constitutes one of the branches of Christianity today.

Well, it is called the protestant reformation. Many would assume then-protestant. That would be partly true. Don't forget the radicals---the Anabaptist. Who are not protestants, and were never Catholic. There was a small thread of Christians from the early church right up to the reformation who never acknowledged the catholic church. They were called by many names throughout history. They were few because they were executed upon recognition by the Catholics. Their roots can be traced back to 251-the first church split. The name given to them at the time of the reformation was anabaptist. From them we got the Mennonites, Amish, Baptist, and a few others. Check out church history from a non-Catholic view.
