If we're in it, and part of it, how can we view it with unbiased eyes to see the truth behind it - to see it for what it really is? Or is it subjective by its very nature because of our consciousness?

You are a Seeker.
There are some Very Wild and Wooley Paths you can get Off on(be Led Astray by the Enemy of Man) when you are Seeking Truth.

But, Seek we Must.
OnWard and UpWard.
Excelsior!

The Answer to your Question is Yes.

(Kinda left ya hanging there, huh?)

Not to Worry.
Learning Truth is a Step by Step Process. It Takes Time to Renew a Mind that has been Subjected to Error.
To Jump Several Steps ahead, at One Time, could cause Confusion.
Remember the Song: "Carry on my Way Ward Son"---- where he Flew too High?
He hadn't Prepared himself to be Able to Understand the Stuff he Encountered.
One Step at a Time.
To Safely Understand Truth from Inside the Box:
First Step----you have to be Born-Again.
Second Step---you have to be Filled with the Holy Spirit.
You will need the Holy Spirit to Understand Truth from Inside the Box, the Holy Spirit will Lead and Guide you Into All Truth---SAFELY.

the devil can Play some Mean Tricks.
Hope this Helps.

I think the proper question is; Do we really want to know the truth? The wonderful thing about existing is not knowing and wanting to. This is our disconnect from the primary source (God). This is what gives us individualities. Once out of this "box" we are again connected directly to the source thereby becoming one with it and loosing our individuality.

I like not knowing. I mean, it's like going to a movie and knowing the ending. It takes all the fun out of it.

What makes you think you are in a box. You are the box. You decide your own limits. Does the box know what it is? Would it? Should it?

To know something, you must first admit what you do not know. It is the process of learning. You can not learn what you do not know. Once you understand what you do not know, you can learn.

The trick is finding out what you don't know. I know that I know nothing. That is why I am here. To find out what I don't know.

Only if the box truly wants us to understand and comprehend existence.

Do you know how many boxes it takes to change a light bulb?

Only one, but the box has to have light bulbs in it.

I don't think we can possibly understand the whole universe, since we cannot see it all. We may be able to understand some things very well, but some things not at all.

If we can make predictions based on our tested theories, then yes. But by its nature, your question will in some ways be unanswerable. And since it is untestable (at least as far as I can see), it is unfortunately unscientific.
