I like to be called Ma'am, it feels more respectful.
If the woman/female looks under 20 call them Miss.

well first off, Ma'am is officially a term of respect and endearment. Miss if for unmarried women and Mrs for married women no matter the age..but it is "respectful" to call any women 15 or more years your senior Ma'am. Hope that helps.

Good rule of thumb, if she doesn't look old enough to be your mom, don't you dare call her ma'am unless you're in the service or from the south.
