I am 39 weeks pregnant. I am 1cm and fully effaced, but I have been that way for a month now. I am having contractions about every 20 min. so far. They are hard but not getting closer yet or stronger. I was wondering if this is going to be it..how long does it take for them to get closer or stronger? I am setting on the couch and drinking water, cause I was told if they were false then drinking a lot of water will kill them out..and it hasnt yet and I have drank a ton so far. Should I do nipple stimulation to get them stronger or closer, will that work? and what else. Sorry this is my first pregnancy. Thanks for all your help.

Wow I think you are close. Try walking around as the gravity will help things along.
Sex can help too but I don't know if you would feel like it at this stage. The reason it helps is because the sperm somehow helps the cervix to rippen and open up, but you are 1cm dilated already with pains 20 mins apart so I wouldn't recomend it.
Bieng your first it is a little scary, but you'll be fine. Try to relax as much as you can as tensing up will slow things down. Best of luck.
PS...Will you let us know if it's a girl or a boy?

Being that they are regular (every 20 mins), it's definitely the real deal. Considering that you are fully effaced, it will happen soon. I can relate to the impatience! Just keep an eye on timing, intensity, and for water breaking or a mucus plug (huge gob of goo) in your panties or toilet. The mucus plug usually indicates within a day you'll be delivering. However, don't wait until you see it if your contractions are getting closer. Walking helps. In fact, the hospital will tell you to if you are not close enough to delivering. Trust yourself and head to the hospital if you have any questions or inclinations. Don't worry about being there and potentially being too early. Better safe than sorry.

If you haven't delivered by your next OBGYN appointment, you may want to talk to her/him about stripping your membranes.

Best wishes to you and yours :)

Has the mucus plug come out yet..
I went into labor around 5:00 p.m. on friday - it stayed the same for hours! I didn't go into the hospital until saturday noon, and finally, labor really took off about 2:00 p.m. that day.
My first baby came out feet first.
My second.. I woke and began going downstairs. I had thought that I urinated as I was coming down.. the doctor said to wait for the pain and then come in. I went from nothing to .05 seconds in mere moments! This one came out the 'right' way.. OUCH!!!!

Sweetie, is someone there with you.. have them prepare your things, while you get some rest. Once the baby comes, it's almost over for that .

I was told NOT to eat or drink.. seems something have changed.

Congratulations.. and enjoy the process!

walking yes, not sure about the pizza. Have not heard of that. congrats you are almost there! try these sites, they will give you some more info about things you can use. you are right about the water. being dehydrated will create contractions. and make sure that your contractions are about 5 minutes apart when you go into the hopsital, or they will tell you to go home unless yoru water broke. good lcuk. try the websties below. I really do understand. I am 32 week into my thrid pregnancy.

well I dont know about taking a bath since my doctor told me no baths after 7 months, showers only. If they dont stop when you change positions then you might be in the early stages of labor, it hurts why do you want to rush it. Nipple stimulation helps alot of women. good luck.

never heard of the pizza thing

I didnt have to worry about that.. cause i had my on at 34 weeks...and it was FAST & Pain FREE..lucky me. my first born too!!!
Put I did talk with the Doc and he said Sex is a great way to get things rolling..and lots of walking.. you may not wanna eat to much... for when you push, it comes out too! blaaa!
Nipple stimalation helps also.. and also another thing my doc told me.. is
Perinamum massage...have huby wash hands well and you can use a lubercation, and massages gentle around the opening, this relaxs it, and helps open it..and prepars you for birth, with high chances of NO tearing!!!

My labor & Delivery was a total of 5 hours, start to finish... i hope its just as fast for you, GOD BLES AND GOOD LUCK!

i have had 5 pg. and never have heard of the water or pizza thing--seems that too much of any thing is un-comfortable-why do that to your self. when its time it will happen. it sounds like you are getting ready. if the pain starts or your water breaks get to the hospital. it could take a long labor or it could be very fast . better safe than sorry. best wishes!!!!!!!!!!

I had the same problem, I was told to walk. I have had 3 kids and I think the best advice I can give you is to rest rest rest while you still can. I was also told to take benadryl to help me calm down and rest.

It does sound just like the starting of work. If they emerge as consistent and extra Intense and nearer in combination than identity be making my method as much as the clinic. It does sound like hard work even though . Good good fortune and congrats.
