Okay, back up slow down, take it easy. The dog probably thinks you are correcting him for pooping, period. There is nothing wrong in pooping. You just need to send the right message that tells your dog where to poop. Forget the hitting, making him smell it, newspaper threats, etc. It really just creates a lot of mixed messages. Your dog does not understand what you want from him. When your dog goes in the house, clean it up when he is not looking. No mixed messages there. When he goes outside, praise him highly and immediately and give him a treat immediately. No mixed message there. Make sure to take him outside an hour after his meals. He will soon learn that when he goes outside he is a good boy and he will stop eliminating in the house. After he certainly understands that going outside is where he needs to go, you can eliminate the treats. Just tell him what a great dog he is and give him a hug. No mixed messages there either.
You and your dog should begin to have a better relationship very soon. A little patience shows a lot of love.

That's exactly how I trained both my dogs. It may take a while, but he'll catch on soon enough. No, it's not mean. It's effective. As long as your not HURTING him, then you're doing great! Just make sure you let him out often and when he does go outside, give him lots and lots of praise. Eventaully he'll learn that going inside gets him in trouble, and going outside is good! Make sure you use a product to get rid of the smell of where he's gone in the house though. Otherwise it'll be harder to train him becuase he'll smell it and think it's ok for him to go there. Good luck!
PS-I don't know about the ferret idea. Sorry!

Is it working. No. The thing you have too do is train the dog to hold it. You need a crate, big enough to turn around and stand up in. Pet smart and Internet sell them. I put my dogs while I'm training them in my bedroom. take him out right before you go to bed and stay out long enough to let him get his innards working. A lot of people don't give dogs enough outside time for that. Then put him in the crate. Dogs won't crap or pee where they sleep unless they are tiny puppies and the crate is big. Then when you get up take the do right outside. If he goes, make a big to do about it, praise him and clap your hands and give him a treat. If nothing happens put him back in the crate for a while longer. Let him out again. do this until he goes and then do the reward thing. You will have to keep this up for a while and be consistent like with a child. They don't get it if you only do it now and then. You will teach him to go out is good, to hold it when he is in the house is good and that he will be a god dog when he does it outside. Take the time to do it you will not regret it. Borrow a crate if you know someone that has one. It depends on the dog. But, you can't expect it to happen overnight and you have got some bad habits established. So, give it time and don't you regress and let the old stuff happen again. Let him have enough time outside, even when it's cold and hot. That's the key. Almost forgot. Paper training is essentially training the dog to go in the house. You have to be responsible and go out and take him out.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aMQJl
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

I'm currently kennel training my dog. They won't poop in their sleeping area. The other thing is to keep them on a consistient schedule. As far as Ferrets go...well potty training is realitive. Reward for going on the paper works much better!!! Good luck!

Do not make a big deal out of where he goes. It will just turn into a game for him. Instead, just pick up the poop, take it outside or to the paper, lay it down and just tell the puppy "outside" or "on the paper", whatever words you want him to associate with the behavior. When the mission is accomplished where you want him to....PRAISE!!!!!

This is NOT an effective way to house train or potty train a dog.
Him pooping somewhere in your house is due to you not supervising.
I suggest crate training, especially if there isn't someone to watch him for a while around the clock.

I have never done anything like that. My grandfather had a dog once that was hard to housebreak he would take the dog and rub his nose in it. This is what he train the dog to do. Dog pee on floor grandpa gets up dog rubs his own nose in it. True story.
What I did to housebreak our dogs was clean up after them as they watch I would say you shouldn't do that in here go outside to do that and then I would but them out.
Good Luck

It depends on how old your dog is. You are using the "old school" method which usually does work. There is a product out there that can be used to take away the smell of where he has already been because that smell will keep him going there. Do not use ammonia.

NO. punishment is never the way with animals. Once they've done it, they have forgotten it.
When he messes, pick up the mess and put it outside, in the same spot every day. Take him outside at the same time, same door, same place everyday.
Yes to lots and lots of praise, they respond well.
Sorry, I dont know about ferrets.
