I was told disrupting those with whom they disagree is exclusively a liberal tactic and I have been unable to think of an instance where conservatives used this. Why is this?

Does disrupting a presentation deprive the speaker of his right to be heard or is it simply an excercise of political strength?

Where have you been for the last decade? Only a conservative would be so blind as to call this a liberal tactic
BTW conservatives are the ones who promoted this tactic in the 60's

Honestly, no I can't... As a proud liberal I find it annoying when people that I agree with on most issues feel the need to "shout down" conservative speakers. This is especially common at colleges (I'm a college student) - and I can't help but wonder... Why don't they show they don't agree with the guy by not participating at all? Why not organize some sort of alternative speaker that would dispute what the conservative was saying?

There's no reason to behave like a spoiled child just because some people are idiots (yes, most conservatives are idiots). I'm guessing conservatives don't do this as much because they have no idea why they believe what they do.... but that doesn't make it any less annoying when liberals do this.

Conservatives shout down liberals in Congress all the time! They are not allowed to express themselves. In addition Liberals are kept out of meetings. Conservatives meet in secret places to avoid Democrats even when they should be attending. In fact, Conservatives don't even let people know where the meetings are being held.

Democrats have to run up and down hallways knocking on Senate doors to find the meetings. RepUGLYcans were caught hiding behind doors to avoid consensus between the parties.

Under the RepUGLYcans, the Senate has completely changed where there isn't comraderie between the parties (the way it used to be years ago) because the RepUGLYcans have drawn a line and have kept everyone else out. (Maybe they didn't want people to see what they were doing with the Pages). Read Mike Taibbi in Rolling Stone this month. Expose on divisive actions by Republicans in the Senate.

Ignore the propaganda and use your head.

If you can answer yes to any of these 3 questions then you should vote for a democrat.
1) Is "Cut and Run" a good strategy to win a war?
2) When you hear the phrase "Loss of innocent life" do you think of poor tortured terrorist before you think of the death of a unborn child?
3) Do you think the dead, convicted felons, and illegal aliens have a right to vote?

Here is why you should vote Republican... The economy is kicking butt. It is robust, vibrant, strong and growing. Unemployment is almost nil for a major economy. The Dow is hitting record highs. Wages have risen dramatically. Gas prices have plunged. Since 9/11, no terrorist attacks have occurred on U.S. soil. Productivity is surging and has grown by a strong 2.5 percent over the past four quarters. The Prescription Drug Program is working. Bush has kept his promise of naming conservative judges. The deficit has been cut in half. If the Democrats take congress there WILL be political deadlock because all the Democrats want to do is NOTHING. They have no plan or policy.. obstruct and stalmate is all we will get from the no agenda Democrats. VOTE REPUBLICAN FOR A STRONG AMARICA.

'disrupting those with whom they disagree is exclusively a liberal tactic"

Watch Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and conservative guests on shows such as Chris Matthews'. The interruptions seem to occur when the liberal speakers are making a strong, substantive point. The intent is clearly to prevent them from being heard.

So the best you can say is that occurs on both sides, my boy.

Not on the same scale as what happens at college campuses. Many of the so called "examples" cited in the answers above are crap though - Republican Convention? - which liberal speakers were invited to speak there and then shouted down and threatened with violence??? Linda Rondstat - she was paid to entertain, not invited to espouse any liberal views. Fox News? They don't get invited on there to give a speach.... Micheal Moore - well, let's not go there.

The difference is this. Liberals tout themselves as the "Tolerent ones", the"Open Minded ones". A conservative speaker is invited, and paid to speak, at a campus and the liberal student groups shout him down and threaten him with violence before he gets hardly one word out.

Does the Republican National Convention of 2003 ring a bell?

BTW those people only showed T-shirts and signs, they weren't
yelling or boo-ing when George Bush took the stage.
They were bodily dragged out and arrested.

Guess you don't remember the 2000 presidential election in Florida where GOP congressional staffers were dispatched with the sole mission to disrupt proceedings wherever they could

I got to hand it to them, they were very organized. The dems on the ground didn't know what hit them.

Of course it is ridiculous to say that such tactics are exclusively liberal! The statement by itself indicates the close-minded attitude that "our conservative side can do no wrong".
For example, there are many examples of "conservatives" blocking Planned Parenthood offices, harassing people going in and out, even bombing the offices. Saying that "liberals do such and such" is a bigoted statement, just like saying that some race is guilty of something! It is individuals that do these things, in any group at all.

Not a group, but any liberal guest on FOX News is automatically interrupted by interviewers, has their points muffled and misconstrued, and then is mocked mercilessly and baselessly. Little do the FOX interviewers realize, such stupid behavior only makes FOX look more pathetic.
