I havn't read The Crucible. Hawthorn's story revolves around a young woman's "mistake" with a pastor. She has his child but never tells who the father was. She bears the stigma of the scarlet letter 'A" for adultress. He bears nothing and his "dark side/secret" remains safe.

whenever you ultimately end up on the part of the final public, it really is time to pause and reflect. Mark Twain Why waste your money searching up your relatives tree? in basic terms go into politics and your opponent will do it for you. Mark Twain A habit can't be tossed out the window; it would want to be coaxed down the steps a step at a time. Mark Twain i love a skinny e book because that is going to good a table; a leather volume because that is going to strop a razor; and a heavy e book because it could be thrown at a cat. Mark Twain two decades from now you'd be more effective disillusioned by technique of the failings that you probably did not do than by technique of those you probably did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail faraway from the secure harbor. seize the commerce winds on your sails. stumble on. Dream. stumble on. Mark Twain

What did the main characters in The Crucible & The Scarlet Letter keep to themselves (secrets) and not tell anybody? That's basically what your teacher is asking you to write about in your essay.
