I have to start at the basics, and that's God. And the thing that I think you have to say about God first is that nobody knows who God is, nobody knows what God is. I don't care what they say--all any human being knows is how they believe they have experienced God. They do not know what God is. That would be like a horse saying they know what a human being is. A horse knows how a horse experiences a human being. And even when you say, this is my "God experience," there is always the possibility that you're deluded. And a lot of deluded people think that they have had "God experiences" and hear voices. So I start with that--I can't tell you who God is or what God is; I can only share what I believe my God experience is. My primary theological teacher was Paul Tillich. Tillich defines God not in terms of a being, a supernatural power who lives somewhere outside the world, but as what he calls "the ground of being." If God is the "ground of being" then I worship God by having the courage to be. And if I am faithful in following that God, I try to build a world where other people have the freedom to be who they are. Anything that enhances being would be good, and anything that violates being would be bad.

It makes good sense, but is the entire paragraph the 'quote? Or is there a quote in there that I missed?

But of course you're right, no one knows what God is, least of all the people who think they do.

This is cult 101. It starts by trying to say that people only imagine their personal relationship with GOD so now they can give up on their faith. (My Mother tried this on me when I was nine years old) Worked for about a decade. Then right when you feel hopeless there is an answer. You can follow the teachings of this man making the statement because GOD doesn't have the answers. Man cant know GOD but man can know the person making the double talk so now you can abandon GOD and follow him. Its Cult 101.
May GOD richly bless you.

What do I think of the quote that God is "the ground of being"?

I think I prefer the Bible statements that God is: The Creator, Eternal God, The everlasting Father, The prince of Peace, The Light, The Comforter, The Mighty God, and many more.

I think that your theological teacher is deluding you. I think that you need to read the Bible and I think that you need to talk to your pastor instead. God is the Great I AM and the Bible is the only book that I need to know him.

I don't know why you would worship a god who is intelligent enough to create language and speech and yet cannot communicate more clearly to you. Also, there is more revealed about God than you know about now. It is not a matter of intelligence, its a matter of obedience. If you seek God with all your mind, soul, and strength, you will find Him.

It looks like you have created your own God, which the Bible says is Idolatry, and thats one of the 10 commandments, the Bible tells us who God is, and he Is who we worship, we do not get to make up our own God, and go to heaven, the only one that can get us to heaven Is the God of Abraham.

I think this is someone's opinion, which is fine. I disagree, since I believe we can know the character of God, by reading His word, the bible...and learning about the person of Jesus Christ; God made flesh.

FUNNANNA---------I could not have said it better. I feel exactly the same.

And also to your question, I think you have created your own God. I am not judging you but I am just reacting to your somewhat very odd question.
