I'm not asking this question to put women on the spot, I have all the respect in the world for women, I just want to know what causes their insecurities...guys (relationships), media (print, internet), influences, peer presure, stress...lay it on me, inquiring minds (guys; especially me) want to know! Your thoughtful input would be greatly appreciated!

There is a lot of struggle in our society to be perfect, the perfect size, height, looks, accomplishments, success. So much is fake, unreal that many of us are scared to show ourselves for fear of being judged, rejected, unloved...ect. Woman by nature are more social then men, we communicate w/our feelings, our emotions where as men are more logical. So we care very much about what others around us think AND WHAT THE THINK ABOUT US. (Most woman not all). I think that many of us strive to achieve that perfect image of a girl that we see on TV/media and when we fail/fall short, we view ourselves as broken or failures, it makes us insecure that a guy won't love us because we are not a perfect size 1 5'10 w/blond hair & blue eyes. Like that makes us beautiful! lol silly I know! I realized a long time ago that I was beautiful in fact most of my friends tell me I have a too much self esteem! LOL - But even I have moments when I wonder if I'm good enough.

So many answers to this question are so possible and probable but I will give it my best.
A lot of times its damage done from past relationships.
Take a look at the magazines. Especially younger women (teens) see this as what they are supposed to look like.
Then again, there is what I call the good ol compliment fishing...
This could be an endless list. Sorry I have not 1 real answer for you.

Women are insecure because you are a guy and if you saw this girl who was totally nice but she was short fat and had a lot of zits would you ask her out. And if you say yes you are just lying to yourself. You have no idea what it is like to be a girl who isn't pretty and is like the only one in her grade who hasn't had a boyfriend yet. Everyday I look at all the couples in school and I feel like crying. So don't say girls are insecure they just are human and they aren't blind so they see what life is like. I am not trying to be cruel I am just being honest.

Men direct their unrealistic images on us constantly. Think of the amount of times men post 'I'm only into slim, sexy women' on this board. I can count at least 40 times since I signed up. It's hurtful and makes women think that if they're any more than a size 4, men aren't going to give her a second glance.

Also, magazine image which are completely unrealistic and unnatainable (Considering most magazing photo's of women are PHOTOSHOPPED to look beautiful. We can't be photoshoped in real life...) You can see an example of the photoshopping of a magazine image at YouTube, it's caled 'Evolution of Beauty'

try all of the above. plus hormones. it's a lot of different pressures from outside and a confused (changing) inside, no matter what we do it's really hard to convince ourselves that we're great and there isn't much temptation to do so since it seems like the only ones who ever think that become total sluts...even though textbook-wise we know that the sluts are like bullies, they're even more insecure than the rest of us, it doesn't seem like it and we don't know what we would do if we ever didn't have image problems lol...it's sad, and we know it, but we can't help it.

plus yes, guys do make us feel bad. especially when the only ones they like are the ones that they have a license to complain about lol

"she's such a *****!"
well you liked her, didn't you? you didn't like ME, or you wouldn't be complaining right now.

but i've heard guys have much the same thing on THAT point...such a shame isn't it??

*sigh*

ahh well.

For me, it's guys...well, at least at the moment. I've lost a relationship to cheating recently, and it's got me feeling ugly to say the least.

The media certainly does a number on most women though too.

Because we have made a picture perfect women in our society and she is a supermodel. Women generally comare themselves to unrealistic forms and so that contributes to our neverending battle with our own minds about what we find an acceptable image of ourselves.

Women are like that because they want to feel attractive and want to make all the guys stare at her. It's very wierd because i've never felt that way. may be i shouldn't worry about it until i'm older. it's a very good question to ponder.

they see people in magazines and wonder if they are that attractive. This might result in eating disorders and stuff. They think that everyone around them is beautiful and they might not have a chance at guys and stuff so they are always trying to change their looks and thats basically it.
