There's this 12 year old I know and she is 5'5 and 150- 160 lbs. I know it is overweight but should she be on diet? She is quite tall for her age but also big, I just wanted to know.

IT REALLY DEPENDS ON WHAT SHE'S EATING NOW.. If she's eating a lot of starchy food and sweets, she definitely has to slow down on such "foods". If she isn't eating those kinds of foods then it may be genetic. Are her parents and the rest of the family "big"?
People that young really shouldn't be that over weight.
Now getting back to your question.."is it healthy" probably not but only her doctor will know for sure. He can look at the family history take in to consideration what she eats and be better be qualified to answer your question. She probably needs to go on some sort of a diet if you can get her to cooperate at that age...good luck

Its perfectly fine to be on a diet at that age as long as its healthy and the child is over weight. This is actually a good thing to start early in life. Just dont allow the child to get under weight.

I think 12 years old is a little too young to be go on any kind of a serious diet. She does sounds pretty overweight though. Is she getting enough exercise? Is she eating a bunch of junk food?

No, it's not healthy for children that young to be on a diet. She will eventually grow into her weight. If she doesn't, then when she is older, she should go on a diet.

well its her own business, however she can also still grow until she is 14 years old, also her BMI is also a mersurment for body types, just because her weight is high, you also have to figure in her bone structure as well
