The quickest way is in the microwave but they taste gross that way. It you want one for at work or something like that I would bake some the night before and then let them cool. Then the next day at work you can nuke them and and they will be good but cooking them just by microwave is not very tasty. The easiest though is clean them cut them in half, spread some butter and chives, wrap them in foil and bake them at 400 degrees for an hour or so.

Wash potatoes and pierce with fork. Cook in microwave on high for 3 to 5 minutes depending on size of potatoe (if unsure try 3 minutes first and if fork does not go through easily, put back in microwave for another minute). Or cut potato in half, spread both halves with butter and wrap loosely in plastic wrap. Cook as above.

I poke some holes in them, microwave them for like 6 minutes, and throw them in the oven for like 45 minutes. I like a shell of crispiness so it takes a lot of dedication, time, and meal planning for baked potatoes for me. But, I usually make a whole bunch and keep them in the fridge for a while. Any leftovers make the best hash browns or mashed potatoes.

Baked Potato-and-Bacon Soup:
Bake the potatoes and shred the cheese the day before making the soup. If the soup needs to simmer awhile on the stove, you may need to add more chicken broth.
5 1/4 pounds baking potatoes
7 bacon slices
4 1/2 cups chopped onion
1 teaspoon salt
5 garlic cloves, minced
1 bay leaf
7 1/2 cups 1% low-fat milk
3/4 teaspoon black pepper
3 cups fat-free, less-sodium chicken broth
1/3 cup chopped fresh parsley (optional)
1 1/4 cups sliced green onions
1 1/4 cups (5 ounces) finely shredded reduced-fat sharp cheddar cheese
Preheat oven to 400°.
Pierce potatoes with a fork; bake at 400° for 1 hour or until tender. Cool slightly. Partially mash potatoes, including skins, with a potato masher; set aside.
Cook bacon in a Dutch oven over medium heat until crisp. Remove bacon from pan; crumble. Add onion to bacon drippings in pan; sauté 5 minutes. Add salt, garlic, and bay leaf; sauté 2 minutes. Add potato, milk, pepper, and broth; bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes. Stir in parsley, if desired. Top individual servings with bacon, green onions, and cheese.
Yield: 18 servings (serving size: 1 cup soup, about 1 teaspoon bacon, about 1 tablespoon cheese, and about 1 tablespoon green onions)

Wrap them in aluminum foil (shiny side in) and stick them on a metal skewer (helps them cook faster). Pop them in the oven at about 400 degrees and let them bake. Test them after a half and hour by poking a fork in. If it goes in hard, they're not done. If it slides in easy, they're done. If they're not done, let them go another fifteen minutes, test again. Do this in fifteen minute intervals until they're done. Once you do this once you'll know how long it takes your oven to cook the potatoes at that temperature, and next time you won't have to test them all the time. When they're done, take them out, unwrap them (careful of the HOT steam that rolls out) and serve them however you want.

All wrong.
Stick a skewer through the middle and chuck in a heated oven. Bake for 50minutes on a high heat or twice as long on 160C.
The skewer (metal) heats up and helps cook the inside of the spud so you have a crispy outer shell and cooked flesh in the middle.

use a pan and pour in water at the bottom, then use some kind of stand-up thing to place the potatoes on...so while the water is boiling on the bottom, the potatoes are being baked on top...
