Grinding of teeth is often a sign of worms. Easily fixed with Vermox or Combantrim. Make sure EVERYONE in the family is wormed and the pets. Do it again in a fortnight or as advised by the chemist.

He's doing it subconsciously. I used to do it all throughout high school. I finally asked a dentist about it because my jaws hurt all day long after grinding all night. The dentist gave me a nightguard, which I put in before bed. When I tried to grind my teeth, it wouldn't work because there was plastic in between the top and bottom teeth. You should see about getting one for your son. It shouldn't be as loud as grinding on his teeth, and it will prevent his teeth from getting broken from being ground too much.

Take your child to the dentist. The dentist can fit your child with a device that he will wear while he is sleeping, which prevents the teeth from being worn down in the grinding process. A lot of people grind their teeth - it's not uncommon.

The others give good advice, but this is what happened when my little brother used to grind his teeth.
My dad sat down with him at bedtime one night and had a nice conversation with him. My dad said, you know you grind your teeth when you are asleep. It's not good for your teeth. So I'd like you to think, while you are going to sleep, that you are not going to grind your teeth tonight.
My brother of course said that he was asleep when he did it, he didn't do it on purpose.
My dad said, I know that you're asleep and don't do it on purpose, but if you think about not grinding your teeth while you are falling asleep, it will help you stop grinding your teeth in your sleep.
This actually worked; my brother stopped grinding his teeth.

It might be stress. Has he recently started school? New sibling? Moved? For adults my dentist recommends buying a sports mouth guard rather than spending $$$ on one from an orthodontist. It cushions the teeth and keeps them from rubbing together. I'm not sure whether they make them in smaller sizes for kids, but it might be worth checking into. 7 years ago I've been involved in a car wreck and even since suffered with severe on and off facial and jaw pain. I've tried almost everything western medicine had to offer and had visited countless of specialist, had done ct scans, and therapies but to no avail. The doctors I have been to had persisted that there wasn't anything wrong with me and that almost drove me crazy as I was going through hell from this condition. According to all my symptoms I was diagnosed by a holistic doctor as having TMJ and he had recommended this book to me. After following the recommendation in the book for several weeks, it had changed my life. I got immediate relief after following the unique set of exercises in the book and after 2 weeks the jaw and face pain had completely gone. I only wish I would have ordered this program years ago. It would have saved me a lot of pain and anguish.

No idea, but head to your dentist or pediatrician and get bite guards. It'll keep him from grinding his teeth down and save a lot of money in detists bills later. My nephew does the same thing, and it saves his teeth and my sis-in-law's sanity.

Talk to his dentist, you can get this thing to put in his mouth so that he won't be able to grind, basically he just bites down on it instead. As for why, well it could be just his own little quirk or it could be stress. Ask your doctor for his/her opinion.

You can't make them stop doing that. I think he has a tapeworm becasue tapeworms cring your intestines and makes you gring your teeth because your in interianl pain. Or he's a dieabetic.Get that checked out. If it wakes the others up at night its serious.

some people do and some don't...you need to get him a night time mouth guard. It will be uncomfortable at first but his teeth will be much happier.
