because they look at those days of old through romanticized, rose colored goggles--they don't think about the fact that personal; hygene hadn't been invented yet or that children died painfully from flesh eating diseases, all they see are the 'miracles' and peace and contentment--they don't realize that their depiction of mary in blue and white is ludicrous, because nobody dyed their clothes and the desert sands made it impossible to keep anything white--they have an unrealistic view of how it was and to them it seems better than what we have now--they live for the fairy tale

Why don't you tell consider the many deeply religious thinkers of the enlightenment period? The first one that comes to mind is Issac Newton, who co INVENTED calculus, I don't remeber anything about calculus or mathematics in the bible.
Also, most inventions in the world, the greatest novelists, the most profound philosphers, are religious. Tell me one catylst invention by an athesit?, Nuclear weapons? that does a whole lot of good for the world.
Finally you seem to be forgetting that 95 percent of the world believes in a higher power, so if those people are following the "Intellectual confines an antiquated religion" how does the world move, because i can tell you that five percent of atheists DO Not run the world.

What you don't understand is that Christianity is a vision of the future. Religion is a set of rules...true Christianity is a relationship with the soon-coming Messiah.
He is going to change this sad, war-torn planet into a place of peace and love, restoring all things to the state they were originally meant to be. In the estimation of those "in the know" there is great hope in the forward looking events ahead for Planet Earth!
There are no "intellectual confines" to those truly open to the greatest teacher - "God's Holy Spirit". But the fear of the Lord is the Beginning of Wisdom.

Who told you that Christianity was intellectually confining?
Who told you that Christians do not seek knowledge?
Where did you get this information?

In my opinion Atheists are the ones confined to their beliefs. Their knowledge doesn't go beyond the big bang and evolution. Spirituality is limitless.

A literal approach to Christianity is definitely an antique. However, its not the only way to look at it. I recommend "Christianity must change or die" by John Shelby Spong.

Um... I'm a Christian and just because I accept Jesus as my Saviour mean that I am no longer knowledge seeking.
On the contrary, my learning and growth has just begun. The Bible offers me lots information on how to please the Lord; from the way I think, act and treat others.

I think your question has no intelligence behind it first of all....There are very smart christian people who seek higher education in truth and technology and history!
Just because we dont believe we evolved from a single cell bacteria! amd we believe in something much more beautiful dont mean we dont seek knowledge in science!
95 % of the world believe in a supreme being and a creation! Atheists just are deprived of faith......

What Christian has ceased to seek knowledge? As it is written, "Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!” God's knowledge is endless...but He continually reveals it to us if we seek Him....
