It probably depends on the people around you. Most people want to "fit in" and we live in a world where most people believe in god, so for the majority, it's certainly the easier choice. Further, a great many deists aren't actively religious, so they can sort of "believe" on cruise control, and only get "religious" on holidays, or when people die, etc.
I think that everyone who was raised to believe in god, but came to that point where they doubted or disbelieved, had to face a "moment of truth" which took a great deal of courage. It's very hard when you've been indoctrinated from childhood to suddenly "reject" this hugely consequential system of belief because initially you have this nagging fear, "what if I'm wrong?" But the mere fact that you are able to get to that point proves you are not wrong. As a step towards maturity, it's almost mythic to be one of the few who are able to "pull back the curtains" (of your own volition) and find that the great Oz is just a man. If it didn't take courage, everyone would be able to do it.
How many Christians say, "I believe because I don't want to risk my eternal soul." In other words, they believe out of fear that they will be denied a great reward. This is classical cowardly behavior. When has it ever taken more courage to go along with the crowd than to follow the road less traveled? The lion walks alone.

I think the answer is "it depends". I think that someone who was raised in a family and community that believes the Bible and was never exposed to any critiques of that world view until college or later might have to muster a lot of courage to question their beliefs. I had some difficult times even though I started to question what I was being taught when I was in my early teens.
I think it might take a lot of courage for people living in the U.S. to convert to Islam, whether they started out as a Christian or as a non-believer.
It probably doesn't take any significant amount of courage to not believe in God if you were not raised believing in God.

It's kind of obvious, don't you think? Believing in God answers all question, tells you how to behave, how to think, and promises that when you die everything will be peachy. There's nothing that requires LESS courage than believing.
Not believing on the other hand means you have to actually analyze your world, make your OWN decisions, answer your OWN questions, and face the fact that existance is random, unknowable, short, and ends with nothing. THAT takes courage.

It doesn't take courage to believe God exists, but if you've been hurt a lot, it takes a lot of courage to have the kind of faith that makes a person an overcomer over and against fear. It's easy to have "faith" when your young, because you haven't had the experiences that remove naivety- this is what makes faith difficult.

I believe it takes more courage to believe.
In these days people only believe what they can physically see and what they cannot has no merit. It takes courage to believe in something that you cannot make complete understanding of. It is by that called faith.
On the other hand, when you don't believe in something, you really have nothing to lose in your own mind.......where is the courage in that?

It takes no courage not to believe, as there is no evidence from which to draw a belief. Likewise, it takes no courage to refuse to believe that a purple duck lives just beyond Venus. It takes considerable courage to assert that an unsubstantiated piece of fiction explains the Universe.

Yes it takes more courage to have Faith. Unwavering.
To not believe in Him is an easy way out of responsibility.
It is a dull day without Him and one I care not to be in.
