He is not acting like anything is broken but he is limping. He has a gash that is wide open and scratches all around it. He is not bleeding all that bad. He acts like he is in some pain. Should I take him to the vet for that or do you think if I just clean it a few times a day, it will heal on it's own?

Take him to the vet right away eh could be hurt bad inside and you dont know. You dont want to loss your dog. He might have been in a fight with some different animal if he has gashes on him.

1) Is your dog bleeding?
2) Does he eat/ drink?
3) Is he interested in the usual games/ food/ going out?
I hope these guidelines can help you decide whether or not he needs to go to the vet now. I'd wait no more than 48 hrs, if he doesnt seem to feel better, I'd take him to the vet.

How can you not know if your dog was hit by a car? Do you let your dog run loose?
If in doubt, take the animal to a vet. If it is injured it needs medical attention. If you don't you are not acting responsibly.

take him to the vet just in case. did you see him get hit by a car. maybe he got in a fight with another dog or animal. maybe the gash is caused by a medical problem. you wont know til you take him to get checked out.

I say clean it out and give it a day or two... if its the same then take it to the vet.

DEPENDS ON HOW BIG THE CUT IS. MY SHAR-PEI GOT HER SKIN RIPPED WIDE OPEN, 2-3 INCHES LONG AND ABOUT 3 AND A HALF-FOUR INCHES TALL WE THINK SHE MAY HAVE GOTTEN CAUGHT ON BARB WIRE. WE WERE GOING TO CALL THE VET BUT WERE TO BUSY. WE PUT PEROXIDE ON HER CUT EVERY 1 OR 2 NIGHTS AND SHE DID THE REST. HER NAME WAS MULAN AND SHE WAS JUST FINE. I LIVE ON A FARM SO THINGS HAPPEN SHE ALSO BROKE ABOUT 3 INCHES AWAY FROM THE TIP OF HER TAIL TWICE. ONE OF WHICH SHE GOT IN A FOGHT WITH A RACOON.

There is no question in my mind that your dog should be seen by a vet. You should not even have to ask. You should have taken him as soon as you found him like that.

you better be safe then sorry take him to the vet cause it could be anything you should take him to the vet it could of got in a fight with another animal so it could have a disease so take him to the vet ASAP! i hope he's okay! good luck!

if any kind of infection sets in then further problems will arise , a wide gash sounds like a case for a veterinarian
