I swear my cats sleep 23 hours a day. What is the scientific reason cats need so much sleep?

Trust me when I say...he doesn't sleep that much. Cats do not sleep like we do. When you think he is asleep he really is just resting. Thats where the saying "Taking a Cat Nap" came from.

Cats evolved to sleep so often because of a couple of reasons. First, they aren't in very deep sleep most of the time. They are "napping," which makes it much harder to sneak up on them or catch them while sleeping. But it also means they don't get as much energy out of it. Second, cats are hunters. They eat smaller prey, and they are pretty good at it. This means it doesn't take much time in the wild for the cat to actually find enough food to survive - they've got plenty to spare. Third, the kinds of animals that cats eat in the wild are only active for short periods during the morning and evening. This means cats only have to be active then, too.

ther is no scientific reason. they r bored and have nothing else to do. get them some toys to play with and maybe they won't sleep all the time.

Cats are domesticated and so they do not have to hunt, with all this waste of time not having to instinctively hunt all they have left to do is sleep
