You'll be considered AWOL & the MP's will track you down to the 4 corners of the Earth until you are caught, you can run but you can't hide !!!!!!!

I am appalled at some of these responses, FIRST IF ALL I DON'T CARE IF A PARENT SIGNS OR NOT, A 17 YEAR OLD SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SIGN IN. Their minds are still developing and trying to decide their future, they might feel like this is what they want one week and then find something they desire to do more, that does not make them a bad person in any way, and it doesn't make anyone a coward or failure. Seems like some of you need to grow up and for those of you who are in the military making negative comments, it's a shame that we have people like you defending our country, no wonder people don't want to go...

If he does not show up at basic, an AWOL notice will be sent out to all police stations. If he gets pulled over or any other encounter with the police that requires a check, he will be arrested. This actually happened to a girl who left for basic, never showed up, and was caught during a traffic stop back in her hometown. Arrested and doing time. They hang her blotter report as a warning to not do stupid things or commit when you are not ready.

VerdeOjos is absolutely right. If you don't show up for basic, your dropped from rolls after 30 days. A dd214 if issued with a bas RA code and basicaly every job you apply for forever that requires a background check will know you didn't make it in the military for some reason. Hence, no job.

I'm not sure how much of the Military Code of Justice can apply to your friend, He is in , But only kinda, He is not going to like the outcome even if they just boot him.. The Code should only pertain to him as a reservist since he must graduate boot camp to become active full time duty. But he is in a lot of trouble, He needs to at least call the recruiter and find out what very few options he has to either turn himself in or work something out, But he has to do it quick, Time is not his friend.. If he hides, they will find him, then what is a young and dumb move, will carry with him for all his life.. Talk some sense into him.. For his own sake..

If I were him I would contact the recruiter quick, make up some lame excuse as to why he missed the plane (his dog could die or something of the like) and make arrangements to be on the next plane out. At least this is something that could be laughed off at a later date. When he signed that dotted line his choice was made.

billy, active duty air force here, nothing will happen to him promise! at most the recruters will call and be angry but nothing bad will happen. he is not army property untill he walks into the gate of basic training untill then he can back out if he wants. no worries
EDIT** wow it surprises me how little people knwo about the military, anyone who said nothing would happen is correct. i woudl trust anyone who said they are active duty, or part of a military family. out of respect though i would have him call the recruter even just to tell him that he decided last minute it wasnt for him, just so save his charecter. there is nothing wrong with backing out of the military, ots not for everyone, and thats why it is a voilunteer thing. and the UCMJ does not apply to him unless he walked in the basic gates. so no codes or military laws will effect him.

He MAY be given another chance. It's not the first time that's happened. I doubt he'd do jail time, but there WILL be word put out to look for him. If he's booted for it, the type of discharge will depend on the circumstances.

Nothing happens until you show up to boot camp. You'll be processed out like you never enlisted except for the fact that you can never join again.

It is going AWOL & in wartime is punishable by death or hard time. It does not happen todat but your cousin needs to turn themself in at recruiters office. A couple of big armed men will come to pick him up & it is Brig time. Turning yourself in will get them to go lighter.
