Unlike SweetestSarah (who seems a bit tart), Indianapolis has a lot to offer-- great food, great attractions. It is a WORLD CLASS city.

www.indy.org is the link to the visitor and convention folks
http://www.indianapolis.world-guides.com/ is a great place for an overview of Indy
www.unseenpress.com gives some fantastic ghost tours- BOO!
www.indydt.com is also a great place for what to do downtown.

You can go to the Theatre District- Mass Ave, visit bars/nightclubs in Broadripple, visit family friendly things such as the award winning Children's Museum, or the Eiteljorg Museum-- or go to the Medical history museum (imhm.org)

-Watch the Colts and/or Pacers. The Indians and Ice are there too. (oh, can't forget the WNBA team... what were they called again??)

-Visit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Museum.

-Visit the NCAA Hall of Champions (along the canal walk)

-Have a pastrami sandwich at Shapiro's Deli.

-Go barhopping in Broad Ripple.

-Go apple picking in Anderson.

-Rent a boat and spend time on Geist Reservoir.

-Get some history at Connor Prairie.

-Visit the largest Children's Museum in the World.

I'm sure there are other things, but those are what I can remember from when I lived there.

depends on the time of year...
You can watch a race in Speedway (which isn't far from downtown Indy)...the Indianapolis 500, Allstate 400, US Grand Prix are all held at the track.
In the "off" season of racing you can go to the Speedway museum (located inside the track)
If you like drag racing...you can go to Clermont to the the US Grand Nationals (west of Indy)
You can go to a Colts home game, watch the Indianapolis Indians play baseball, go to the IN state museum, shop in Circle Center, or go north on Meridian Street to the Children's Museum (not just for kids)
Conner Praire (north of Indy) is a small "town" like attraction that will take you back to praire living in Indiana

They have a beautiful canal river walk that is nice both in winter but best in spring summer and fall. Close to the zoo and the mall downtown is a lot of fun. Be sure to visit Jillians
