(i use to work at a pet store)..what work really good is a bath in joy dish soap,
and u can also use canned orange juice(in the freezer at the store), let it set out to get warm and just put it all over them and then wash it off (the orange juice as alot of acid in it that kills the fleas)
i vet even told me them tricks..
depending how bad they are.. if they are really bad u will have to defog your home as well

Yes there is. Why use all that toxic stuff that, I guarantee, you'll get a cold or the flu within ten days of using toxic bombs, etc., when you can use a safer product that won't make you sick, but, will certainly kill the fleas.Frontline is a great product that does kill fleas, as well as Advantage, but the ingredients have been known to cause neurological problems for pets.
If you want to make a couple of phone calls to some of your local health food stores, ask for Diamatsicus Earth (I know I spelled this incorrectly) or DE for short. It is a powder. There are two kinds. Do not use the kind for outdoor pool maintenance.
This stuff really works. It even kills cockroaches. How it works: It is made from ground shells, which penetrate the insects hard outer shell, causing them to dehydrate and then die. It never expires either. Just spread it lightly around the baseboards, and after vacuuming, in the carpet. You won't have to leave your house either. What a bonus that is.
Also, treat the lawn with lime. You can get it at a home building supplier (Home Depot, etc) or garden supply stores. You just put it in a plastic gallon container, like a milk jug, and put holes in the bottom and fill the container with the lime. Then shake it around the yard, or use a fertilizer spreader, if you have one. Do this in the spring and fall and your chances of fleas in the house will be minimized greatly.
If all this sounds like too much, then go to one of the websites below for products that will kill fleas, but won't make you or your pet sick.

Please do NOT use over-the-counter flea medications like Hartz. My friend gave Hartz flea drops to her cat, and it almost killed him. If a cat has a bad reaction to the stuff, it happens within a few hours. They get siezures and drool uncontrollably until they die. It is horrible. If my friend had gone to bed early that day, she would have lost her cat.
Please do not use these products on your cat. If grooming and bathing do not take care of the flea problem, it is time to cough up the extra money and get a prescription treatment like Advantage.
By the way, it is very important to take care of fleas because not only do they make your pet miserable (how would YOU like being eaten by bugs all day long?), they carry tapeworm eggs and will almost always infect your pet, which can be very dangerous or even fatal.
Do the right thing. You would never give your child an inexpensive medication that kills a small percentage of children every year. Do not do the same thing for your pet.

There most absolutely IS NOT a home r emedy.. you have to buy a spray to spray the area on day one and one week later, do it again. same for the cat.. if they will allow you to bathe them... with a GOOD flea shampoo then do it on day one and a week later, again.. IF the cat does not like water.. t hen put a flea powder on the cat on day one and one week later.. again.. there is NO SUCH THING as a home remedy when it comes to fleas

yes there is it called soap water and bathtub. since you cats have fleas the other thing to consider is the infistation of carpeting in the house. you can clean your cats all you want but if you dont treat the house even with vaccuming you'll have a new batch of fleas every 90 days.
If you can afford it treat your cats with advantage and steam clean your carpets.

Buy an inexpensive cat care book at Bargain Books. Then you will know how to take care of your cats. First: Don't let them out. It's dangerous out there. Get several boxes of kitty litter & clean daily, get a scratching post or two and some cat toys. No more fleas!! No yukky diseases from mice & other vermin. No chance of getting hit by car. No chance of being tortured by sicko. No kittens to be euthanized by local shelter (but they're all neutered/spayed, right?).

I use a flea comb on my cat and then drop the fleas in alcohol. But in order to get rid of fleas you have to get rid of them in your house. You can treat your floors with boric acid but don't let kids, pets get into it.

my puppy had fleas, but he was too young for medications, so they recommened me DAWN, not joy or other dish soaps. I mean the others work, but they'll really dry your pet's skin. dawn is gentle to the skin. Well, anyways, it REALLY worked for my puppy, and now we're more then happy as ever ^^, by the way DAWN was used to clean animals in Alaska after the big oil spill. They had commercials and stuff. anyways GOOD LUCK ^^
