Chemical engineering will require you to work inside laboratories and chemical plants. The E (electronic?) C(communication?) Engineering course will allow you to work in TV stations. Electrical engineering will make you work in manufacturing plants of electrical gadgets. Civil engineering and agricultural engineering will compel you to work outdoors. If you would like to teach an engineering course, you will spend most of your time in the classroom and have to go to the field from time to time. I do not think genetic engineering belongs to the same category but this field is conducted mostly indoors. Why not take a course that has something to do with information and communication technology instead?

Any type of engineering. It's what you do with that education that depends where you work. Engineers can design/test/manufacture things so it depends.
