I would avoid walking your puppy in areas where there are other dogs, at least until he's had a vaccination for distemper/parvo. Even then, I would avoid dog parks or places where lots of dogs get together. There are several canine disease that are passed from dog to dog, so until your puppy is vaccinated, avoid unnecessary contact with other dogs.

Your puppy is old enough to have his first vaccination at 6-8 weeks. You should repeat the distemper/parvo combo every 2-3 weeks until he is around 12 weeks of age.

Please vaccinate your puppy! I've seen some very sad cases of parvovirus that were very avoidable by vaccinations. Four months is too old to wait for vaccinations!!!!!

I would not walk the dog until he gets all of his shots. You can practice walking him in your house while you are waiting for him to get all of his shots. If you decide to take him for a walk, I would advise only down your street and not areas where stray dogs roam. At six weeks, you can have your puppy where his lease around the house so that the lease does not feel foreign to him. By the way, it is never too early to start training your dog.

Since he is a bigger dog he should be fine now. You're on the right track w/wanting to train him young. He will learn the right ways to walk on a leash and to behave. Be sure not to walk him too far though as it can later cause arthritic problems.

I agree first he must be properly vaccinated. Secondly make the walk an enjoyable experience use lots of praise and treats. Lastly let the dog know you are the Alpha (boss)

I would take him to puppy kindergarten to begin to train him. The owner actually learns more thatn the dog, but then you will know what to do to get him to behave on the leash.
