I try to sit up straight but my back starts aching after only a few moments. I am growing quite a curve in my upper back and want to get it remedied before I look like Mr. Burns from the Simpsons! Help!

If you can, spend some time laying flat on your back on the floor. At least an hour every day! Or, for more drastic measures; go to your doctor and tell him or her your dilemma and they will fit you for a brace!

You need to strengthen your upper back muscles (which will be over-stretched from yrs of poor posture), and stretch/lengthen the muscles in your chest (pecs). Standing in a corner with your arms bent at 90degrees, one against each wall, and slowly leaning in, will give your pecs a good stretch. Your nose should be moving toward the corner (where the walls join together). You can also raise your arms up into a V shape to stretch the pec minor muscles. It's very importmant to strengthen the back as well so that the muscles can hold your upper body erect. Good luck. It takes dedication and patience. I find chiropractic quite helpful too, as well as massage treatments to help loosen things up.

Even though it hurts you must maintain good posture until it becomes habit forming. It is called muscle memory. Try it.
