In roughly this order, depending on what you've tried/have on hand:

1 Soak it in hot soapy water.

2 'Goo Gone,' if you can find it.

3 Nail polish remover will do it quite well, but it does wreck some kinds of plastic -- try swabbing it on with a Q-Tip in an inconspicuous order.

4 Azulene oil, the stuff sold near the home waxing kits in drugstores, removes gunk fairly well.

boil the thing in water and scrape it off with a washcloth and soap or if it's something that can't be submerged in water run the part with the price tag on it under really hot water so it melts the glue and peels off easily

Hot water and vinegar usually does the trick. Let it soak for a while and wipe it off.
