About 5 years ago I woke up with a horrible rash all over my body. I had eaten shrimp the night before, and although I'd never had any problems from shrimp, my doctor suspected I could've acquired an allergic reaction to it. There is speculation that I could've had a reaction to the bed I'd slept on that night also. Anyway, I want to get tested for shrimp allergies because I absolutely LOVE shrimp, and want to eat it again. Does anyone know how much allery tests cost, and what they entail? I really want to eat shrimp again.

I worked at an allergy office for a short time but it was along time ago .. but from what i remeber the test really isnt that expensive and the test its self all they do is give you a prick test ... the needles ( which are not at all big) are just pricked in your skin with the allergy sollution rather it be a flower or pollen anyway they prick you with it No it doesnt hurt ( feels like an insect bite) and if the area gets red, itchy or swollen then that tell the doctor yes you are allergic to whatever the area shows...The doctor can test you for numerous things so go get tested it doesnt hurt and you will know what to avoid .... Good luck i hope i helped some its just been awhile since i worked there...

Ask your Allergist to list out the particular blood panels that needs to be done.... call your insurance FIRST to see if they'll cover some of the expense. Some of the blood panels can be costly... better to check first.

There is a significant difference in the "patch" or "stick" test for skin allergies (which are called Contact Dermatitis) and the blood panels needed to check for serious allergies that can cause anaphylactic shock such as Dairy, Shell fish (shrimp), Latex, Peanuts.

I'm sorry this isn't going to answer your question, but do you get this with wine as well? It could also be a sulfite allergy. They spray all shrimp with sulfites to prevent black spot.

Good luck with the tests....sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Insurance might cover them....It's basically a prick test. They inject a little bit of the allergen into you and you basically wait to see if you have a reaction. I've had them done many times...
