Everything is ultimately from God, however things have changed from how they were in the beginning of creation.

Basically, if it feels "bad", it is probably not from God, for example, if someone slaps you in the face, or made a racial slur against you, that would not be from God.

If someone held a door open for you, or offered you water when it is a hot day, that would be a gift from God.

God wants us to be happy, to be good to one another. God is love

I believe that being a Christian is doing the best I can to function in this world and at the same time ask myself "what would Jesus do?" frequently, and do my best to do that.

I do not believe satan or demons have power over me, I follow my gut, I believe God gave me that too.

God Bless You

oldguy63 gives a very good answer.

We have to prove God's will and try(or test) the spirits to see if they are of God and maybe we will be uncertain sometimes. So hold up on that until it emerges. Spirit doesn't always have to mean an evil spirit, maybe the spirit of a person that needs to be weighed or even the 'spirit ' or nature of an action or occurrance. We can all do or say things with the wrong spirit or motive or be misled sometimes.

Step back, as it were from the situation and take an overall view. This is sometimes helpful. Where is whatever leading? What is its effect? Does it lead to God's glory? Or does it bring self to the fore? Does it bring peace or anxiety?

God always uses His Word and may give you a gentle monition but always working in accordance with His word, the Bible.

God leads, but Satan drives.

There are perhaps some principles to guide. For example, It is against Satan's nature to be humble or to produce humility. Also he cannot produce love, true love since his nature is malicious. Of couse he does not want to awaken conscience, or encourage prayer or the study or absorbtion of The Bible since these things will likely shatter his kingdom.

Maybe you could get hold of a copy of God's work by Jonathan Edwards for he shows very well how to handle this subject and in a very easy and almost common sense way. It's a small book and he can say these things much better than I.

God will show you if you seek Him.

Basically everything you need is in ten commandments. I realise it can sound typical, but it's true. Ten commandments are the law which can be practised in life of everyone of us, we just need to interpret it for our individual situations.
What I also wanted to say is that most oh the time it's quite obvious from which side are ideas coming, God's or Satan's but we tend to analyse them too much to find justification.
For instance, if there are two guys you like and one is single and OK and the other is married and fabulous-he is definitely not the God given one, because that would be totally opposite to his command:"do not commit adultery". But then, everybody can remember David and Uriah's wife, and can think:"maybe I'm the one who can get away with that too". The truth is, God doesn't want us to brake his law, because the disobedience is what will hurt us most, but he can turn even the worst things into positive results (as was Solomon in the David's and Bathsheba's case).

As Christians we believe what Christ taught. Jesus called His Word truth. In the Bible we are told to study the Bible, to teach it, and that everything we need for living our lives, and to come to know God is recorded in this Book. We are commanded not to add to it, or take away from it. It claims to be inspired by God and delivered to men to write down as the Holy Spirit gave it to them. That is what is from God and if something isn't there either in fact or in principle we do not accept it. It is a very concise book and very comprehensive, and also very large book with much detail. I have been a Christian over 60 years and have really never found a situation in life that the Bible does not speak to. Jesus said, "If you "abide in My Word you will know the Truth and the truth will set you free. ". John 8:32
As I read the answers that have come in many have said if it is good it is from God. I think that is a very bad philosophy to follow, not that it isn't true but that humans do not have the ability to determine what is good and what is bad. The Bible says there is a way that seems right (good) unto manbut the end of it is the way of death. Trust the Bible.

Here is something from a talk by Elder Joseph B Wirthlin:

As the sun gives life and light to the earth, a spiritual light gives nourishment to our spirits. We call this the Light of Christ. The scriptures teach us that it “lighteth every man that cometh into the world.” Thus, all mankind can enjoy its blessings. The Light of Christ is the divine influence that allows every man, woman, and child to distinguish between good and evil. It encourages all to choose the right, to seek eternal truth, and to learn again the truths that we knew in our premortal existence but have forgotten in mortality.

The Light of Christ should not be confused with the personage of the Holy Ghost, for the Light of Christ is not a personage at all. Its influence is preliminary to and preparatory to one’s receiving the Holy Ghost. The Light of Christ will lead the honest soul to “hearkeneth to the voice” to find the true gospel and the true Church and thereby receive the Holy Ghost.

I invite you to ponder individually in a humble and prayerful manner and ask yourself: “Do I have the Spirit in my life? Am I happy? Am I doing anything in my life that is offensive to the Spirit and preventing the Holy Ghost from being my constant companion?” Have the courage to repent, if needed, and again enjoy the companionship of the Holy Ghost.
***************
The Holy Ghost can help us discern what is right and wrong as well as the light of Christ. Like the talk said, every person is born with the light of Christ, but only members baptized by the right authority are given the gift of the Holy Ghost. Also, prayer is a very powerful tool. If you are unsure about something or want to be sure about something, ask your Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, what you are wondering...he will answer your prayers. It may not be the answer you were looking for or in the way you wanted it, but he will answer.
Hope that helps...contact me for more info

God cannot lie. If what is before you is in contradiction with His word, then it cannot be from Him. If it is in agreement with His word, then it probably is from Him, but we know that the devil can quote Scripture and twist it (as we see from the account of Jesus' temptations in the wilderness), so pray for discernment. God has promised that if anyone lacks wisdom and prays for wisdom with all his or her heart, he will supply that need. (James 1: 5-6). Pray for wisdom. And know that God loves you and will direct you towards Him and His will for you, perhaps through reading His word, perhaps through the ministry of another Christian. There is a lovely verse in Isaiah 30: 21: "Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying: 'This is the way; walk in it.'" Trust God and He will do that for you.

Love and Life and Truth are from God. Satan would like people to think he gives those things too, but he's only capable of using or twisting what God has given.

sweet lady.
here are a few principles
1) is it in line with the word of GOD?
2) Is it either rebuke or encouragement either will edify (build up person in Christ or his church) if it is neither it is not from GOD
3) is it in line with previous prophesy? (being that when God speaks he has a prophetic edge, a double edge sword so to speak
4) does it glorify Jesus?
5) if it is a word from another person to you has God already spoken to about it
6) test it using the above
7) some people have the gift of discernment and it may be well to ask them for advice
Satan is the enemy of mankind he has two primary modes
1) 1 Peter 5:8
Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
2)2 Corinthians 11:14
And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.

this is helpful to

Romans 12:2
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

16Jesus answered, "My teaching is not my own. It comes from him who sent me. 17If anyone chooses to do God's will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. 18He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him. 19Has not Moses given you the law? Yet not one of you keeps the law. Why are you trying to kill me?"

Those who brought the true Word of God were also given works to do that no man could do as a testimony that what they spoke and wrote down was indeed from God, So they performed things like raising people from the dead and other miracles. Also the test of a true Prophet was if what He said would happen did happen exactly as he said it would and their prophecies were very specific not vague. They named names, dates, and things that would happen. Plus those who are born again by the Spirit of God are given the Spirit who enables them to know God and His Word and so today we test all things by the Word of God.

That is called spiritual discernment- and it is actually a gift of the Holy Spirit. Many believers have this- and Pray for it! Just pray for it daily- Pray the Lord will help you to have spiritual discernment to know what is of Him, and what is not of him....

1 John 4:1
[ Test the Spirits ] Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
