MASON, Ohio -- Northeast of Cincinnati, school officials in Mason have taken some heat after two Muslim boys were offered a separate room during the lunch hour.
Superintendent Kevin Bright said it was a "fasting room." He said their parents didn't want the two high school students to have to watch classmates eat while they were fasting for Ramadan.
But school board member Jennifer Miller calls it a "prayer room." At a board meeting earlier this week, she protested, saying America is a Christian nation, not a Muslim nation.
And, a Mason parent said if one group is allowed to pray in school, everyone else should be, too.
The superintendent noted that the two students never even used the room but went to the library during lunch.

First of all," officially" America does not have a national religion. And just as Christians celebrate and practice their religion freely in school (Christmas,Easter, etc.) as well as Jews, Muslims should be allowed the same freedom. You don't have to like my religion, but you do have to respect my right to practice it. I And considering that the students never even used the room during Ramadan (the holiest month in Islam, by the way) the point is moot. I think the bigger issue is why are there so many bigots on the on the board?

they don't seem getting "particular clinical care" because they don't seem being allowed to do issues that the different faith can't do. the colleges are granting concessions and scheduling breaks to abode their religious needs the position the colleges had or were going to have a wreck besides. because if you're going to have a 15 minute wreck -- and it concerns to at least one crew even as it takes position yet doesn't count number to the different crew even as it takes position -- then it does not damage to abode them. And contained in the San Diego case, the different faith can pray jointly -- no particular clinical care. As for George Mason -- the students are utilising an section already placed aside for religious prepare. And the separation isn't being forced by technique of the college, that is completely the alternative of the practitioners. As for UMich-Dearborn, it really is arguably an unconstitutional use of public money to pay for religious lodging that no different religions is getting. yet i have not checked the information of that case, so i do not comprehend the information to do a suitable diagnosis. yet evaluate that in Dearborn, the Arabic/Muslim inhabitants is over 30% of the entire student inhabitants.

I don't see it as "special treatment", I see it as respecting some one else's religion, as we all should. Non-Christians don't get to go to school at Christmas or Easter, and Non-Jews in some areas do not have school onYom Kippor or Roshashana. We all need to learn tolerance of each others religions, and hate mongering.

This is NOT special treatment, it is respecting their religious freedom. Children who are Jehovah's Witnesses are given lots of "special" treatment and that is how it should be. This is a nation of many religions and cultures. That board member is ignorant.

And as long as this room would be permitted to use by anyone else needing it as a fasting room the problem is? I actually see no problem with this and I am a Christian.

I have no problem with this. I think it was an act of kindness, more than anything. We need to stop picking at such little things, when there are bigger issues in this country to worry about.

I do not think it is special treatment, but consideration. And, being considerate of people is a good thing. I would say this mother is a trouble-maker.
